. >> nbc 10's pamela osborne is live in the breaking news center for us. what do you know at this point? >> tracy, katy, there were 81 people aboard the flight this morning. nbc news is reporting 76 people were killed and five survived. that's according to the head of police in the area of where that jet came down. the plane was carrying brazilian first division soccer team chapec chapecoense, scheduled it to play in a final on wednesday. the plane crashed around 10:00 p.m. eastern time on its way to medellin international airport in colombia. this is a picture of some of the wreckage there. poor weather conditions were reported at the time of the crash and right now the crash site itself is only accessible by land because of the current weather conditions. this is a shocking end to a fairy tale season for team chapecoense, video of the team celebrating the win that earned them a spot in the game. they were travel to compete wednesday. in addition to the players and coaches and crew there were several reporters aboard that flight as well. the south-america

pamela osborne is live at stiff hall. tell us about today's vote. >> reporter: this is the final vote on that sugary drink bill. it failed twice before, but if it were to pass, which it is expected to, it would be the first of its kind in a city this size. as we know, it caused a lot of controversy over the past few months with people demonstrating for and against this tax. ultimately council decided to compromise with mayor jim kinney, agreeing to a 1.5 cent an ounce tax on sugary drinks. the majority of the money raised will go to fund universal pre-k throughout the city, creating 6500 new slots for kids waiting to enroll. another chunk of the revenue would help revitalize the recreational centers, tough sell to some residents and business owners, but the councilman says the time is now. >> they said the same thing about the cigarette tax last year. it produced $88 million for the school system. first time in five years we haven't had to raise real estate taxes. so you make tough choices about it, sometimes it works out

pamela osborne is live at the airport. tell us what you learned. >> vai, here's what i can tell you right now. there were 50 passengers and four crew members onboard american eagle flight 4801. operated by piedmont the flight coming in from richmond international airport. it landed here around 8:15. prior to landing, the pilot reported smoke in the cabin. the crew and passengers were evac waited on the air field after the plane landed. one passenger had to be checked out, but there were no injuryies to report. this happened after another american american eagle flight, this one operated by republican airline communicated to the faa tower that there may be a problem. that plane also landed safely. airport officials tell me the plane taxied to its designated gate under its own power and the 76 passengers and 3 crew members got off safely. for several minutes we know things did come to a standstill. there were no planes that could take off or land here. traffic is moving again at the airport, but keep in mind very significant

nbc10's pamela osborne is live in south philly, keeping track of it all. pamela. >> reporter: good morning. this walmart behind me is open 24 hours, rosemary. still pretty quiet. i'm going to step out of the way to show you here. you can see some outside. they are waiting for customers. i did checking around to give you a better idea of what might be open near you, in case you have to run a last-minute errands. giant grocery stores usually open 24 houring, they're open right now. they will close at 5:00 tonight and reopen at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow. wegman's stores, closing at 4:00 tonight reopening at 7:00. acme stores also open from 7:00 this morning until 4:00 this evening. now for a look at some of the stores that will not be open this thanksgiving day. lowe's, home depot, nordstrom, ikea, t.j. maxx, all closed. i also checked out target stores in the area to give an idea. the rittenhouse square locations will be closed. many of the other target locations in new jersey, new jersey as well as the philadelphia area are going to be opening up at 6:00 tonight. s

pamela osborne has more on what's happening inside today, pamela. rnc >> reporter: cosby arrived shortly before the 9:00 hearing in good spirits. bill cosby was all smiles when he first exited his vehicle accompanied by his legal team. he joked with a security guard saying don't tase me, bro as he was on his way into court. prosecutors today will try to urge the court to try to. the allegations span decades from the 60s to the 90s. the prosecution will argue that these accounts are similar and support andrea's allegations that cosby used a friendly approach and used drugs to sexually assault his victims. pennsylvania law generally prohibits evidence of so called bad acts from being presented in court. in some sex crime cases the type of evidence that he flekreflect pattern of behave yoior has bee allowed. they have already questioned the motivation of these accusers. one suggested he put up a $100 million settlement fund for potential victims. it is expected to be a petition to ask each witness as many as 80 questions to defend what they are calling

nbc 10's pamela osborne is live in wilmington with details. pamela, what can you tell us?rter: tracy, good morning, we can tell you that fight happened inside a girl's bathroom here at the howard high school of technology. last night we caught up with students who returned here to the high school for a vigil. they gathered to console one another after the loss of their 16-year-old classmate and to show her family support. there were a lot of tears, a lot of hugs, a lot of people wanting to know why, what happened? here's what we know. it was sometime around 8:15 yesterday morning when the victim, a 16-year-old sophomore student was assaulted by two other girls. the fight happened out of sight in a girl's bathroom. the victim was so badly injured, that she had to be air lifted to the hospital where she died of her injuries. the entire school was on lockdown a couple hours later, early dismissals began. as police investigators took things from there. we talked to one student at that vigil last night. i'll let her describe to you how people are feeling. >> people upset and cr

we'll start with nbc10, pamela osborne live at the scene in old city. pamela, give us an update? >> reporter: vai, it started with a minor accident and ends up with a major crash here on the southbound lanes. take a look, police are blocking off the southbound lanes. if you look down there, you'll see one of our news photographers, he watched this accident unfold this morning and was able to get some pretty incredible video of the crash you'll see only on nbc10. the ladder 16 fire truck, we know, was pulled over on the far left lane. there was a finer accident there. a vehicle accident they were responding to. the tractser trailer hit into that fire truck. five firefighters were injured. they were transported to hahnemann hospital. we're told by fire officials they have nonlife-threatening injuries. the driver of the truck was also reported as nonlife-threatening injuries. he's reporting at jefferson. a tow truck driver just arrived on the scene a short time ago. but on the underside of this underpass is where that tractor trailer is r
