stephen: the only trouble when you're on final approach at sjc, according to pilots, you don't have 20 to 30 minutes for your eyes to adjust, only minutes or seconds. our investigation into this problem dating back more than 2 years has uncovered 43 different pilots, including more than a dozen commercial pilots, who have complained about being blinded or disoriented by the lights at levi's. tom ridge: it worries me when the proximity of a stadium to an airport has created problems for the pilots. it's no longer a failure of imagination. that's the reality. they say themselves it is a problem. stephen: tom ridge served as the nation's first secretary of homeland security. he's now the ceo of ridge global security in washington dc. he worries that the problems we uncovered at levi's stadium will be repeated at the new los angeles rams stadium, only 2 to 3 miles directly off lax's runways. tom: forget the terrorism. from an operational point of view, this is a bad idea. stephen: ridge wrote two different white papers to the faa and la rams officials, warning of similar safety concerns, a

nbc bay area's damian trujillo joins us in the south bay at sjc, san jose international airport. damian, what's the scene there this evening? >> reporter: raj, as you can imagine, more traffic than usual here at san jose international airport and the airport says they expected it, of course, with all the expansions that have been taking place over the last year here in san jose. they expect to see roughly 400,000 travelers between november 18th and the 29th. that's a 15% increase from the same time last year. so the busy rules apply this week. arrive two hours before your domestic flight and three hours before international flights. that's at all three major bay area airports. also don't wrap any presents because tsa will only make you unwrap them. similar, long lines are expected in oakland and at sfo. adding to the problem is all three major airports added flights and destinations over the last year. but so far, at sjc, no one is complaining. >> it was wall-to-wall people so we waited comfortably and now we're going to have turkey day with our family. >> reporter: and that fami
