valerie castro is live on the upper east side where she spoke to a woman who watched it all happen. valerie? >> reporter: the woman says she was so terrified that all she could do was scream as she watched the man being stabbed over and over again here on 61st street. tonight, the man is still fighting for his life at a nearby hospital. >> i was screaming. i was scared. there was just blood pouring out everywhere. >> reporter: this woman says she witnessed a case of road rage turn into a violent assault on the upper east side saturday night, all from the back of a taxi cab. >> reporter: it all went down on 61st street. the woman says the car in front of her cab suddenly stopped and the driver got out. he walked over to a blue ford parked on the side of the road. she said the driver of the ford got out and started stabbing the other man in the chest repeatedly. >> the guy who got stabbed came over to us right in front of the hood of the car and took his shirt off. he had a white shirt on. didn't even see blood yet. when he took his shirt off, the blood was coming out of his chest. >>

valerie castro joins us live with the developing story live in the belmont section of the bronx tonight. valerie? >> reporter: maurice, this most recent incident happened along southern boulevard in the bronx. the victim says the violence was completely unprovoked and he says it's not the first time he's been attacked while driving a bus. >> punched my head. >> reporter: dennis done well has been a bus driver for the last 13 years. at least twice he's been attacked behind the wheel. the most recent assault, a violent beating. he says he was parked along the bronx 19 bus route on southern boulevard when someone approached the door. the person who steps onto the bus appears to say something before reaching over the partition. >> walking, says something to me about, don't do that again. i said, what did you say? he started to punch me all over. >> reporter: the suspect gets off the bus only to jump back on to continue tirade. he says he tried to do escape but was trapped. >> there was nowhere to run. you can see my right eye, it's all red. i've got double vision. i can't even see straight.

passed in a new jersey school district, the board heard from parents and students tonight, cbs2's valerie castro is live in hillsdale where their meeting just wrapped up. valerie? >> reporter: maurice, the school board voted in the last 30 minutes to pass the new policy. there were lots of speakers on both sides. it was a very contentious debate and it also included transgender students. the new and improved policy will accommodate transgender students at pasqual hills and pasqual valley regional high to use the restrooms that a transgender student identifies with. restrooms and changing areas already provide for individual privacy and the students will have to show that this is indeed their core identity. some parents believe the issue was forced through and others were very happy about the vote. >> i don't think there's enough education to us, and as well as the people around to understand how to deal with this in the future. people from the community that were opposed to it, but glad to see the school is taking steps in the right direction. >> reporter: the school board made it a point to poi

reporting in west new york, new jersey, valerie castro, cbs 2 >> president obama is scheduled to meet with cuban president raul castro tomorrow. >>> the nypd is searching for a machete-wielding man accused of slashing three people in queens. investigators say it happened after an argument at a restaurant in jackson heights early sunday morning. police say the 24-year-old suspect pulled out a machete, sliced a 32-year-old man on his head and back. two other men in their 20s were also cut. all three are expected to be okay. this man is in police custody in brooklyn tonight. the nypd tracked down 25-year- old gregory alfred in new jersey nearly a day after investigators identified him as their suspect in the slashing of a 53-year-old woman. it happened near the beverly road q train stop in prospect park a little more than a week ago. the woman is recovering from the cut to her neck. >>> a staten island family is left in shock after they say a treasured piece of jewelry was mother as she lay dying. as cbs 2's steve langford reports, they're urging the person responsible to step up and ret
