let's check in with kevin coop cooper, director of communications at california mountain resort company to the day. looks like we've got some snow in the forecast. yes, we do. so as we just mentioned, you know, a winter weather advisory is in effect for this weekend. >> how do you expect this to impact skiing conditions for people on this year? that's a great question, stephanie. it just to refresh, right? we're not looking at a lot of snow. 4 to 6 inches. i've forecast models up to 10 inches. >> but that we're looking more about that. 4 to 6 inch range are still road. pretty much low tide up here right now that a lot of precipitation. but a lot of those storms have just wrapped up north lassen, shasta area. but it's really good skiing and riding a covid winter shape right now. that's just the consistency of this now. but we're really having a good time. a nice little refresh before the new year's. it just as was just mentioned. we're going to see a little bit of a dry period. let the bowden operations teams get out around those mountains and start to look at what they could open up as

we are joined again live by kevin coop cooper of calippus resorts group.t the amount of snow that you got up there. we were just checking the sierra avalanche center that says that today's avalanche risk is rated at around moderate because of the snow that fell. what kind of advice do you have for people who might be heading up to the slopes? >> well, you know, right now we've got that second system that's coming in. that bill was just talking to you. so you've got the system that came in. it was heavy and wet. got a little bit light. so you've got two layers that we're looking at in the backcountry right now. this next round that's coming in is going to start out a little bit wet and heavy. so pretty much it's going to layer like a layer cake. so we really got to watch. that will probably be considerable by tuesday. again we're looking at 1 to 2ft. that's a conservative side of it. then down the west slope down towards china peak 3 to 4ft. so that's a lot of snow in a short period of time. but a great setup as we go into the thanksgiving weekend because t

. >> that would be kevin coop cooper with california mountain resorts. lly great to see you. i love to see what's behind you. actually, some snow there on the ground. we've talked to you before, and we've talked about the fact that the higher elevations were getting some snow. but is this system did this system actually bring it to the lower levels? >> absolutely. down to lake level. so behind me right here, 6375. so we're just a little bit above lake level right now. but we're starting to see that snow starting to accumulate down here at lake level. you've got about four inches, maybe six inches depending where you're at. if you're up off i-80 they saw anywhere between 18 to 19in down by state route 88. kirkwood mountain resort 18in. but as you drop the west slope, that's where it hit. even out of fresno, 36in bear 2418 dodge. so this is a really good snow maker and you know heather, you know alex. guess what, 58. just a few days when i talked to you. yeah the snowpack now 79% after this storm. >> and so we're talking several feet of snow at the resorts.

joining us now live to talk about all things tahoe is our tahoe expert, kevin coop cooper. a pleasure to see you. so i want to talk a little bit about something a bit serious here. a high avalanche warning is in effect for the greater lake tahoe area and the eastern sierra into reno. can you explain a little bit about the conditions that have prompted this warning? >> absolutely. yeah, that's a great question. so what's happened is we're we're getting good snow. right. but we have a we have a bad layer down below. so if you go to the sierra avalanche center, you can take a look at the latest forecast. and basically if you think about how snow falls, think of a layer cake, right? each and every layer of the snow that's come through. now tilt it up and put it up on angle. so we have a bad layer kind of in the middle right there with this heavy wet snow on top. it has raised up the avalanche concern and the sierra avalanche center by far is the expert in the sierra and the eastern sierra avalanche center. as well. so if you're going to go into the back country, you definitely

kevin cooper from near the south shore. he's the executive director of communications at callie pass resorts. coop, take it away. >> i'm looking at snowfall above me right now. it's a beautiful thing. this has been an interesting system. it's been coming in in waves. anywhere from 14 and almost 24 inches at the summit right now. it just continues. like we just mentioned, we're looking at snow going through tuesday and wednesday, really setting up march and really setting us up for the season. >> looks like an epic week later this week. this is a pivotal week, i believe, for business for the tahoe resorts because it's ski week for so many bay area families. this could make or break some of the business season for you guys. >> absolutely. this is the beauty of it. we're getting the snow coming in. you're going to be challenged a little bit getting over the sierra, coming over i-80, highway 50, you're going to have a little bit of a challenge. but once you get here, you're going to have a good time. we're now experiencing lake level snow. so a lot of those operations, the snowmobiling outfits, cross

we're joined this afternoon by kevin cooper, director of communications and public relations for the california mountain resort company. coop. it is good to check in with you once again. we just had this series of storms come in off the pacific here over the past week or so. i know you mentioned that these systems mainly were bringing snow to the higher elevations. how did the tahoe area do with these storms in terms of snowfall? >> well, i kind of kept with the forecast right there. great question. you know, it's at the upper elevation, 7500ft and above. they've seen 4 to 6in just depending on kind of where you're at in elevation up north above i 80 all the way down to 168 by fresno. so we've seen some good snow skiing and riding goes up on the mountain today. so the skiing and riding is still good. resorts are working the train, trying to keep as much open as humanly possible. right now with this system. so we're looking good this weekend though it could be a challenge. this next system coming in friday and saturday. we'll see chain controls on i-80, highway 50, state route 88, highway four. so the usual suspects. but i'l

kevin cooper. he's in meyers at the base of echo summit in south lake tahoe. hey, coopto tell you. >> yeah. this is a great question, claudine. it's that in in the last four hours, we've probably seen four inches down here just above lake level at 6375 wind gusts. rosemary, talking about that five hour to the top of kirkwood mountain resort right now. and conditions are just getting a little bit more intense, which is good for snow. but i'll tell you what, this is one of the first big systems we've really set in. snow levels are all the way down to 4500ft. you're seeing winds upwards of 100 miles an hour across the ridge tops, which is increasing the avalanche danger greatly today. it was high yesterday. i would expect it to be high to critical today. but this is great news for tahoe. the water tables, the ski resorts and anybody that's getting out ready to come out for the holidays. >> how about the resorts coop? are we checked some of the websites at palisades and heavenly and some of the chairs are closed and they're they're kind of waiting to kind of sort this all o
