all five officers who were charged in nichols death were black. in light of that, what do you make of the report's findings? >> well, i think it is. speaking of the reality that it is a police culture that when we move from constitutional policing, it leads away for there to be racialized policing to take place. so whether one is a black officer or a white officer, it opens up a door for them to treat african americans in a way that they would not treat caucasian americans. and so this, again, report is allowing us to concretize what's been happening in the community and to see the discriminatory policing has been taking place in our city against african americans regardless of the race of the officers. >> the city says that it will not agree to federal oversight right now until it can review and challenge the results of the report. and then, of course, we just heard there from the police chief saying that, you know, it's already made more than 700 policy changes, and it's working with doj on training. um what do you think about that well, i think

family and tyre nichols themselves, you cannot water this down.hese are the moments where we watched tyre nichols be killed by these defendants. there's no way around that, no way to sugar coat that. they have to see it. you have to approach with an appropriate level of sensitivity, but you cannot water it down. you have to prepare the jury for it and show them as much of it as possible so they cannot ignore. remember, the standard here is beyond a reasonable doubt. with the copious amount of body camera footage you have, you want to leave as little doubt as possible in the minds of these jurors that listen, the job this person came to do as a prosecutor in terms of convicting these individuals and trying to bring some level of comfort to the nichols family has been satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt. we have seen it with our own eyes, and watched the tape, despite how uncomfortable it may have been. >> two other officers took plea deals. if they testify, what do they bring to the case? >> they bring corroboration. they bring the idea of what int

nichols dying and they laughed.or told the jurors to use their eyes, their ears, their common sense. i think that conviction for wind this -- for witness tampering is well established by the evidence, but i don't understand why two of the officers weren't convicted on civil rights charges. the evidence does seem to support conviction for all three officers. >> that is the thing that i think is surprising. it is witness tampering, but not violating the civil rights of someone they killed in a traffic stop. that seems obviously a violation of civil rights. the justice department has also filed, there have been two federal indictments against two of the officers involved in the killing, the shooting death of breonna taylor, who police officers kicked in her door, shot at her, killed her after midnight while she was asleep and then charged her boyfriend and said he was responsible for her death because he tried to defend her because he had a firearm. their names are kyle mimi and joshua james. given that the civil right
