sandhya, thanks very much. as sandhya mentioned, the north bay is expected to bear the brunt of that atmospheric river. so today. abc seven news reporter leslie brinkley ventured up into sonoma county for a look at how people there are bracing for the rough weather in the north bay. >> this inflatable dam in the russian river near forestville marks the start of the winter rainy season, when forecasts show river flow increasing and the dam is then lowered. last year it was mid-december. this year it's now. >> we're hearing atmospheric river and while we can't anticipate how much water is going to come through, we know a lot of that rain water will be in our river system, and that means a lot of high, fast moving water. the inflatable dam is filled with water. it holds 180,000 gallons of water. so we're slowly releasing that water back into the river. >> it will take another 24 hours for the dam to sit completely on the bottom. and if this atmospheric river materializes as forecast, the water could be rising up t

let's check in with abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya. yeah. and ama and dion we are going to see this heat intensify as we head towards tomorrow. let's talk about the temperatures today. it was record setting. san jose tied at 95 degrees. 102 in san rafael. that was a new record. most other areas were in the 70s to 90s, but that is going to change, which is why excessive heat warnings are up for many of our valleys hills, san francisco bay, shoreline, the rest of the region in orange under a heat advisory. this is all going until 11 p.m. wednesday. and that's because the heat risk is going to be in the moderate to major category. you can see this for tomorrow. this pretty much means that the heat is taxing on your body and could make you sick. so you definitely need to take it easy. of course, those that are sensitive might be more prone to getting sick. the air quality has been deteriorating. spare the air was extended through tomorrow as we're expecting moderate to poor air quality. temperatures right now 60 to 80. we're still hanging on to

let's go back to meteorologist sandhya patel to talk about the storm. sandhya. >> yeah, it's a level two and it is here. so let's look at live doppler seven. and you will notice that much of northern and central california dealing with the rain, dealing with the snow. so let's get you in closer to live doppler seven. and you will see that we are getting downpours. they are stretching from the east bay out towards benicia, crockett, concord. this is street level radar. pleasant hill, pleasant hill road. you are getting some heavy rain right now. now the rain has reached all the way down into san jose and points southward around the morgan hill, monterey road, highway 101 area san francisco is getting drenched along with daly city. and we look at the north bay, where we have seen venado picking up over three inches of rain. santa rosa is closing in on an inch and a half almost. there have already been reports in the north bay of trees down, so watch out. this is not a good time to be out and about. i would stay off the roads through early tomorrow morning

meteorologist sandhya patel is back. sandhya? >> yeah. dan.cking some heavy rain right now in the north bay. as this atmospheric river continues to feed moisture into the area. sebastopol. highway 116. rohnert park, santa rosa, you're not getting much of a break, which is why the urban and small stream flood advisory is going for parts of the north bay. in the east bay around oakland piedmont park boulevard, you are seeing some steady rain from the peninsula, lighter rain around pacifica. the winds have been gusting right now. atlas peak 5052, big rock ridge. we've seen wind gusts as high as 70. you'll notice one of those reports was 61. right now for the hilltop winds. sfo is reporting over three hour delays due to the weather. we not only have the wind, we have the rain. it's a level two for tonight. look out for downpours. and that is really going to be focused on the north bay going into tomorrow morning. scattered rainfall across the region starts to lift by 10 a.m. into the north bay. and then really just a mix of clouds and a few shower

sandhya yeah. ama, we're going to see showers as early as tonight in the north bay. >> right now we take a look at live doppler seven. impressive level three storm with an atmospheric river heading in our direction. as we look at our local radar, you can see some radar returns already showing up off the coastline. most of that up to our north is not reaching the ground yet, but that will be changing tonight at 9:00, 930. you're going to see some showers in the north bay. that is an advance of the main storm tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. the north bay is getting wet. you will notice the heavier rain begins to move in around 1 p.m. and downpours are expected at 7 p.m. even into 9 p.m. as we do expect, this level three storm to cause not only bring heavy rain, downpours at times, gusty winds downed trees, flooding on our streams, roadways and the possibility of power outages. we do have a flood watch that starts tomorrow morning, runs until friday morning for the entire bay area. this pretty much means t

let's go to abc seven meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya. >> yeah, dan and ama, let's first take a look at southern california red flag warnings are in effect until 6 p.m. tomorrow as they are facing extreme fire danger near that wildfire down south. it is dry 11% the humidity. winds are out of the east northeast, gusting to 22. that's what's making it problematic for the firefighters and why that fire has exploded in size. winds have been clocked well over 60 to 70 miles an hour right now. live view from our mount tam cam. the winds are backing off, but it is still gusty. 30 at spring valley, 36 at hawkeye. you'll notice at the lower elevations, 21 in concord and san jose, relative humidity values are still low. 16% in napa. with these dry conditions, red flag warnings remain in effect until tomorrow morning, with gusts up to 40 miles an hour, humidity down to 12%. any fires that develop will rapidly grow. we have a wind advisory for lake county and solano county until 6 p.m. tonight. with those gusty winds, 35 to 45 miles an hour,

sandhya, thank you so much. as the storm closes in on the florida coastline, it's raw power has been on display throughout the day. cameras in the tampa area are bouncing in the wind and the water is just angry with waves being churned up. milton is also packing a lot of rain and that could cause extensive flooding. the outer bands of milton produced a tornado outbreak this afternoon. the national weather service issued more than 150 tornado warnings across the state. that's a single day record for florida home surveillance cameras captured an apparent tornado in fort myers. now, if people have not heeded evacuation warnings by now, it is simply too late. stay put. at this point, people are being told to ride out the storm in a safe place. >> i would prefer to be at the house and to be stranded in the middle of the street somewhere where that's just as dangerous when you make that call for help. >> i can't imagine what you would feel when you ask for help, and it's too dangerous and helps not coming. don't be th

so for all of the details, let's get right to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya. yeah. ama and dan. this live doppler seven will pretty much spell out what has been happening all day long. >> the north bay has been getting soaked all day long by this atmospheric river, and right now it is no exception. so as i take you in closer to where we are seeing some downpours, street level radar right around santa rosa, you will notice windsor highway 101, old redwood highway. you're getting pouring rain. a flood advisory is up until 8 p.m. tonight. they've already seen flooding on smaller streams and creeks and roadway flooding and that's going to continue in the east bay. emeryville oakland piedmont area. highway 24. you can see all the way out towards orinda, lafayette, even into moraga, crockett, concord. you're getting some steady rain. san francisco down the peninsula, also getting wet into redwood city and san mateo, widening the picture. this atmospheric river is a level two storm. that area of low pressure that you're seeing over the pacific, that bombed out yester

>> uh- this question, sandhya might have that answer for us. sandhya yeah. ama and dan it's going to be fantastic. >> all right. the weather for any outdoor activities, including that one. so let's take a look at these live pictures from our tower cameras. we do have some fog showing up from mount tam. you can see pretty nice views from sutro to san jose to emeryville. that fog layer is pretty shallow, just like it was this morning, which means we are in for another hot one inland and the coast will remain comfortable. high pressure in control of our weather. it nudged west enough to bring us the heat today. low 60s to low one hundreds. tomorrow we're going to do it all over again with the hot spots in the 90s and 100. so inland areas will be in the moderate heat risk for tomorrow. so just take it easy, especially if you are sensitive to the heat. we do have that heat advisory for the south bay until 9 p.m. tomorrow on live doppler seven. we just have a couple of passing clouds. that's about it. fog is very patchy and half moon bay, and those temperatures in

meteorologist sandhya patel is here. sandhya, i don't want to feel heat with my eyes.w why they do that in death. >> i know i don't blame you. it's going to be 127 degrees in death valley tomorrow, dan. and for several days, they're going to be dealing with temperatures in the upper 100 seconds. okay, we're not going to get that hot, but it is going to get hot inland. so let's talk about the next few days. heat warnings and advisories will be going up as the summer sizzle returns tomorrow through friday, with three days of triple digit heat coming. it was nice break today while it lasted, but temperatures are going to soar. you're going to notice livermore going from 87 to 103 degrees. that's 16 degrees warmer tomorrow afternoon. san jose up 13 from 80 to 93. you can pretty much see everyone will be in the positive high pressure is going to rebuild, and that's what's going to bring us the heat. but the good news is it's not going to be an area wide heat event. you can pretty much see why. look at all these tower camera views. we have the fog and the low clouds around.

patel. >> sandhya. yeah. karina and ama, we are expecting stormy conditions as early as tomorrow night and continuing into sunday , especially during the morning hours as that strong level three storm comes in with an atmospheric river. this is your time to prepare. as you look at live doppler seven, we're not all seeing showers there. very spotty right now on the peninsula from redwood city to atherton. also street level radar. linda mar boulevard along the san mateo coast is seeing those showers in the east bay. orinda, lafayette, mount diablo boulevard. watch out for some wetrillionoadways and in the santa cruz mountains, that next storm is going to be aimed with the heaviest of the wind and rain. santa cruz mountains, big sur coast down towards southern california. current system is a level one and it is bringing snow showers to the sierra nevada and those spotty showers will continue tonight here in the bay area. now tomorrow morning you get a little bit of a breather. there will only be spotty sho

meteorologist sandhya patel is back.andhya. >> yeah, this is our sort of a lull in our action right now. let me show you a live picture of a gorgeous view from our mount tam cam. look at that. i mean, now that's what i call a beauty. a sunset is just stunning with all those high clouds. we are looking at live doppler seven with a lot of cloud cover, but the rain is sort of to our north and taking a break from the bay area just briefly. all right, we do have another storm that is developing out over the pacific. it is certainly pushing all of the moisture and the energy into the pacific northwest and northern california, where they are seeing a rain snow mix. we will start up back up with the wet weather this weekend, and as a matter of fact, a high wind watch will be going up for the sierra. this is for tahoe. 1 a.m. to 8 p.m. sunday. southwesterly winds gusting to 65. ridge gusts to 150. that's damaging winds and travel may be difficult, so keep that in mind. rainfall from this last storm that came through last 24 hours

for the details, let's get to abc7 news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya. yeah, and umma, you know it wasn't going to last forever, but we are going to flip it back to our rainy season this weekend. >> let me show you live doppler seven. we have a level one storm that is on its way and this is a cold storm that's going to be moving in early saturday. taking a look at the hourly rainfall every two hours, you will see that there is a rapid increase in when that rain starts to really roll through here, which is early saturday morning, 4 a.m, you will notice that rain is here on saturday, 8 a.m. it is spreading across the central bay and the south bay, and it is going to be heavy at times. 2:00 in the afternoon switching over to showers. this system is going to be accompanied by wind 25 to 30 mile an hour winds. and then this really remains gusty for the afternoon hours. it is a level one on our storm impact scale. saturday rain, brief downpours, slippery roads, breezy conditions, 4/10 to an inch plus of rain for most areas . i'll be back to let you know if sun

meteorologist sandhya patel is here. sandhya? >> yeah, it's already started. and that triple digit streak is going to continue for several days. take a look at the 24 hour temperature change. 22 degrees warmer in nevada right now. up 20 in livermore, 15 degrees warmer in san jose. as those temperatures are rising, our air quality is starting to decline. moderate pockets in yellow for parts of the bay area, and there will be poor air quality as we head into not just today, but tomorrow as well. high pressure building in. we don't have really strong winds to mix out our atmosphere, but that is why the air quality will decline. with that ridge of high pressure comes moderate to major heat risk for bayside and inland communities, shaded in oranges and reds. you will notice that parts of solano county is in that major category. as we look at the humidity. it has really plunged 9% in fairfield, 10% in brentwood. so our fire danger is elevated as we head into the next couple of days. a live view from golden gate bridge camera. 74 in the city. it is in the 80s. oaklan

so let's get to sandhya patel for the latest. >> sandhya. yeah. >> dan.and let's take a look right now as to the three day forecast for tahoe. and then we'll talk about what's happening on live doppler doppler seven. excuse me. tomorrow. mostly sunny skies. if you want to head up to the mountains to enjoy the snow. tomorrow is your day. 32 degrees, mostly cloudy, gusty on the peaks. we are looking at heavy snow on saturday so definitely not a good day to go on saturday. now let's take a look at the current conditions up in tahoe. it is 27 degrees. they are chaining up on all roads leading up to the mountains. heavy snow falling at tahoe right now with a south wind. so looking at live doppler seven, you will notice that thunder snow in the sierra. and then the snow continuing to fall across the region. scattered showers here locally and i do want to show you where it is focused at this hour between morgan hill and gilroy. we are seeing some light to moderate rain also around san martin, santa teresa boulevard, monterey road. this is where it is wet at this

abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is here with what we can expect for tomorrow. sandhya.eah, and dan and ama, we are expecting high fire danger. it all begins tomorrow morning and it continues until thursday morning. we are talking about dry, gusty offshore winds, humidity dropping and critical fire weather conditions ahead. so definitely be prepared. here's what's bringing us the windy pattern. low pressure has moved off to the east, but high pressure is rapidly building in behind it. the wind flow between the high and the low, causing the drying winds. right now we're already starting to see that switch around out of the north, gusting to 33. in half moon bay, we do have gusty winds over the hilltops as well. going hour by hour tomorrow afternoon. that northerly wind flow starts to impact parts of napa and solano counties. notice they are ramping up up to 34 miles an hour. calistoga, fairfield and it only gets stronger by wednesday morning. we're talking 50 mile an hour winds there in fairfield, 38 in napa, even gusty in other parts of the bay area. this continues into

sandhya. yeah. and dan and we're going to continue to feel that sizzle. the next several days as we are in september. and we expect this. take a look at the temperature change compared to 24 hours ago. try 21 degrees warmer right now in livermore. so definitely a significant warm-up up 18 in novato, 15 in san jose, 8 to 10 degrees from oakland to san francisco. if you are stepping out tonight inland areas still pretty hot at 7:00 in the 90s by 9 p.m, dropping into the 80s and at 11 p.m, it's still going to be warm in the 70s around the bay. the sun shining at 7 p.m. in the upper 70s. feels good to be outside around this time as the sea breeze is coming in. temperature dropping off eventually to the 60s and along the coastline starts off clear mid 60s and then some fog starts to develop late tonight, dropping into the 50s. high pressure is starting to take control of our weather with the offshore flow. those temperatures came up once again as we see that happen, we are going to notice that the

meteorologist sandhya patel is here with the full forecast. sandhya?> yeah, it is a dangerous pattern that we're in, dan. >> and it's a prolonged heat wave that we're not done with yet, so let's take a look at the headlines. this dangerous heat wave will bring records again tomorrow. >> the fire danger continues. >> we're talking about breezy conditions in the hills and dry as well. >> and on friday, the heat briefly eases. >> we do have some relief coming, but not until early next week. let's talk about your high temperatures for tomorrow versus records. so livermore expected to hit 108. that would surpass the old record of 103. san francisco 90. santa rosa 103 103. would be a record for santa rosa and san jose at 103 would surpass its old record. same thing for gilroy at 108. that's extreme. that would also break the record. if they come in the way that they're supposed to be playing out. oakland 95 will be shy of its record, so we take a look at what's bringing us this heat high pressure, this large dome right overhead. the winds are down sloping of

sandhya patel of course, tracking the conditions down there.way, sandy. >> no, especially when they didn't get the kind of drenching rain that we had last month. dan and ama, good evening to all of you. let's take a look at a live picture from malibu where that fire continues to burn. it is really just grown tremendously in size 2700 acres. over that i should say. the winds have been strong. one of the remote sites, magic mountain, gusts to 82. still hill. gusts to 95. we've seen 70 to 80 mile an hour. wind gusts in the area of the malibu fire right now. malibu hills, 30 miles an hour. north. ranch 33. those dry, gusty santa ana winds have been fueling this fire. red flag warnings remain in effect through tomorrow evening as dangerously low humidity are combining with those gusty winds, and especially when those winds over this area tend to really funnel malibu area, the hills, canyons, they get that extreme fire danger. and the extreme risk is there for the danger. going into tomorrow night. one of the contributing problems to this whole mess

let's check in with abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. hi, sandhya. hi, there. >> yeah, it is going to be in and out before you know it. so let's take a look at live doppler seven right now, and you will notice that the wet weather is up around northern california. they are seeing a mix of rain and snow there. a few sprinkles on live doppler seven moving towards ukiah right now, but it's going to take a couple of hours before the atmosphere moistens up. it's a light level one storm on our storm impact scale, and this front will be in and out of here so quickly that we're not expecting a whole lot in terms of accumulations. as you will notice, 7:00 tonight up around mendocino county, the rain starts to shift into the north bay at 10 p.m. by 1 a.m, starting to cross over into the east bay san francisco peninsula and around 3:00 in the morning, the south bay and the east bay finally get their share. this is going to linger into the early morning hours. as you will notice, around 7 a.m. storm impact scale exclusive to abc seven news. it's a light level on

let's get right to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya. yeah. >> ama and dan. let's take a look at live doppler seven. because we are seeing some heavy rain across parts of the bay area. we're going to get you in the street level radar right now in the inland east. first in the east bay. as you will notice, right around hercules san pablo road, elsa bronte, east richmond, we are getting some downpours right across five, 80 and 80 as well. so the commute is not going to be very easy tonight. light to moderate rain from san francisco heading down towards brisbane and in the north bay. it is steady rain right now across highway 101 from san rafael to green beret. as we look down towards the south bay, there are some showers right around the santa cruz mountains and between morgan hill and gilroy. we are seeing that wet weather area of low pressure off the coast. some lightning strikes off the northern california coast just in the last couple of hours. that cold low pressure system will come in once the front passes, and that's why we have the opportunity for some

thank you sandhya. in southern california, the fast moving bridge fire has scorched more than 49,000 acres in the angeles national forest, making it the largest active wildfire in california. officials say flames have destroyed 20 homes in the mount baldy area with another 13 homes lost in the wrightwood area. six cabins were also destroyed. 2500 structures are still threatened by the flames as sweeping evacuation orders and warnings remain in place. >> i'm hoping it's still there. you know, i'm almost 80 years old. i'm retired, i'm disabled, and i really don't want to live anywhere else. but if my house is gone, i don't know what to do. >> the fire, which started on sunday, remains 0% contained. cause hasn't been determined. >> on the other coast, another natural disaster to talk about. hurricane francene is ripping through louisiana tonight after making landfall. this afternoon as a category two storm. it intensified just before coming ashore with sustained winds of 100 miles an hour. the storm caused
