nearly eight million elderly americans are living with the help of family or friends, and new research shows some of these caregivers may face their own struggles. the john hopkins study followed more than 1700 people who helped care for an older adult in some capacity. those who provided substantial help with medical care were more likely to have emotional, physical, and financial difficulties. they were less likely to attend social, religious, or family activities, and many of these caregivers said they were less productive at work.
