during the first lockdown, was admitted yesterday because he needed help with his breathing. he is not in intensive care. john maguire reports. it all started as his way of thanking the nhs for looking after him following a fall. now captain sir tom moore — the record—breaking fundraiser — is under its care once again. he's being treated for pneumonia and covid—19 at bedford hospital. in a statement released yesterday afternoon by one of his daughters, hannah said he was being treated at home but was taken to hospital when he needed additional help with his breathing. he's on a ward and not in intensive care. she described the medical care he's received over the past few weeks a5 remarkable and goes on to say, "we know that the wonderful staff at bedford hospital will do all they can to make him comfortable and hopefully return home as soon as possible." this year, of course... we last spoke to him just before christmas, and he was his usual optimistic self.

optimism, so much positivity, really, and it is important to try and now feed all that back to him. we will see a huge response, because his story captured so many people's imagination, rightaround his story captured so many people's imagination, right around the world. i remember seeing his birthday cards that arrived for his 100th birthday last year, an absolute ocean of cards arrived, and we are starting to see people expressing their good wishes. spending time outside the hospital this morning, people have been asking whether we had any updates, giving us the captain tom thumbs up, saying they hope he gets much better very soon. just to say that he was due to have his coronavirus vaccine but was not able to receive it, because of his pneumonia. if he was here, i'm sure he would say that tomorrow will be a better day than today, his famous catchphrase. well, let's hope that even today is a better day for captain sir tom than yesterday was and that he gets well very soon.
