today sources inside congress
and the obama administration are
telling cnn president obama has
decided to bring 30,000 u.s.
troops home from afghanistan.
he's making the announcement
tomorrow night at 8:00 eastern
during a speech you can see
right here on cnn.
30,000 is a little under
one-third of the 100,000 troops
there now.
but it won't happen quickly.
we're told 10,000 will come out
this year by the rest of the end
of 2012.
another source says the pentagon
argued for an even smaller
drawdown.
but robert gates says he
understands the president's
decision.
>> the president has to take
into account on any national
security issue sustainability
here at home both among the
public and in the congress.
and it goes without saying that
there are a lot of reservations
in congress about the war in
afghanistan and our level of
commitment.
there are concerns among the
american people who are tired of
a decade of war.
