to continue that debate and find
out what is next, democratic
senator chuck schumer of new
york, and grover norquist of
americans for tax reform, his
anti-tax pledge played a key
role in the super committee
showdown.
welcome.
senator schumer, i want to begin
with you.
i hope you had a good holiday.
welcome back to "meet the
press."
>> i did.
>> let's talk about the fallout
and what comes next from the
super committee failing to get a
deal.
one big question before the end
of the year is the payroll tax
holiday.
the president would like to see
it extended.
what's going to happen in the
senate?
>> well, the first thing we're
going to do when we get back
this week is put the payroll tax
holiday on the floor of the
senate.
it would give middle-class
families about $1,000 extra in
their pockets.
the average family would get
that.
it would boost the economy.
and we paid for it with a small
surtax on incomes over $1
million.
it's essential that we do this.
we're going to keep at it and at
it...
