what a testament to the work of
the people at nasa ames to get
the shuttle program in place.

you have done so many stories
for nasa ames.
how incredible to talk to
somebody who flew it.
did it surprise you?
>> reporter: you know i lived in
florida.
i saw the seventh or eighth
launch.
i saw john glenn go up.
living in florida, you see these
go up all the time.
you wouldn't realize it, but you
can live halfway across the
state.
once it is in the air, you can
see it.
it looks like a white plume of
smoke or rocket flare at night.
you think of the engineering
