tom, let me start off with you.
you heard the state rep from
shelby county.
he said, listen, alabama is a
different place.
it is not the place it was in
1965.
his reaction obviously one of
positive because he feels
they've won here.
>> well, that's absolutely
right.
that's his perspective.
it's a perspective shared by
five justices on the supreme
court.
that's what you need.
it is not one that was shared by
the overwhelming majorities in
the house and the senate when
they reauthorized the voting
rights act.
the justices have said the list
that was used in that section
four preclearance provision was
outdated and needs to be updated
and needs to be narrowed.
