chilly day at wrigley. a day
for the pitchers, and ryan
dempster took advantage of it;
seven and two thirds, two hits
and ten strikeouts but his
bullpen let him down, first
kerry wood in the eighth and
then carlos marmol in the ninth.
ian desmond poked it to right to
score the go-ahead run, that was
rough. the cubs did have a
chance in their last at bat, ian
stewart hit one that would have
bounced off a building across
sheffield on a lot of days.
today it fell on the warning
track, a one out triple but
pinch-runner joe mather was
thrown out at the plate trying
to score on a grounder to third
and that's it - cubs lose the
opener, 2 to 1 they wasted a
good one from ryan dempster.
>> he was incredible. he got
out a couple of early jams and
after that he was just about as
good as you can get. his carter
his slider everything was
tremendous.
