northern virginia bureau chief
jeff goldberg joining us live
to explain why that is it.
jeff?
jeff: we are hearing mixed
reactions to this plan.
at this time of day you can
see the traffic build up on
66.
it's a real nightmare.
the virginia transportation
leaders have a plan to reduce
the pain on the roads.
this morning in a unanimous
vote in alexandria the
commonwealth transportation
board agreeing to move forward
with a plan to add tolling on
i-66 inside the beltway.
it will have solo drivers
paying to use the h.o.v. lane
similar somewhat to the hot
lanes on 495, 395 and i-95.
vehicles with two or more
drivers will still be allowed
to use the lanes for free.
the price of the toll will
depend on the traffic volume
but it is expected to be in
the average of $5 to $7.
transportation officials say
the move could open the door
for widening 66 as well at
some point in the future.
