stepping down as dc school's
chancellor by the end of this
month.
and she will likely be replaced
by her close colleague, the
deputy chancellor of dc schools
kya henderson.
the news is not that
surprising.
it has been a question of when
would she resign, no if she
would resign ever since her
boss, mayor fenty lost the
democratic primary to vincent
gray.
one day after the loss she
called the defeat devastating
for dc's school children.
rhee did meet with gray after
the comments were made.
clearly they were not able to
work through their differences.
during her tenure she closed
dozens of schools, fired
principals and teachers and
took on teachers union and
created a system of merit-based
pay, a controversial system in
which compensation was
determined by improvement in
test scores.
he was aggressive,
unapologetic.
