michael dunn is now in prison for life with no parole. but in that we had to fight to get those convictions. with we had to fight because of the implicit bias and racism and the perception that those young, black males were with up to no good. and that's how my advocacy began. i began speaking out about not only our tragedy, but all the tragedies since jordan the's death that -- jordan's death that i'd watch happen again and again and again. these were not only tragedies of young, black males, but sandy hook, pulse, all of the other tragedies that we've seen happen again and again and again. i started asking the hard questions, why were our legislators not standing up? why were our civic leaders, why were our national clergy not talking about this senseless death that was happening over and over again? and who was going to stand up to champion to make sure that we are safe and not in fear of being maimed or gunned down unnecessarily? that's how it all began. i became the national spokesperson for moms demand action, for gun sense and ever
