tonight, the president of n.y.u., john sexton, reflects on the challenge of building a great international university. >> if i were able to do this, i would create a broad-based group across the political spectrum that would take as its mandate an insistence on nuanced conversation and would begin to speak out not about the content but about the process of conversation, as engaged in by people with ambition. i think universities have a special role to play in this and i think we can start modeling that using our campus, because there is a lot of pressure on politicians and leaders of all kinds because of the public's demand for short-term solutions -- there is pressure away from long-term solutions and thinking over the long-term, probably the most obvious example is health care, medicare, social security and so forth and now -- -- climate change, the whole set of ings. now, what universities are good at doing is thinking long-term. of the 85 institutions in the world that exist where they did years ago were universities. >> charlie: of what? >> of the 85 institutions in the world that exi

i think they did a great job. i think it is a great guide for the development of this part of the city. but there are two things i wanted to talk about today. first of all, i am originally from sydney, australia. when i look at the waterfront in san francisco and there is still a lot of work to be done. i did once when i first lived here -- when i first moved here took the walk along fisherman's wharf. i have not done that walk sense, because i do not think it is a nice walk. i do not think this plan will address that. there are not many places to stop and have a drink. there is not a particularly beautiful walk along that side of the harbor. i think this plan would go a long way toward improving that as a great opportunity for the city and seaport, to approve the amenities. i think it could improve the quality -- the quality of the city. as a young professional who moved to the city, i think i am reflective of a lot of young people in the city. a lot of young people have moved here from other parts of the united

i believe we have a great work ethic. our people want to work. the 6.7% unemployment represents a significant percentage of our population that is seeking jobs and are desperate for our economy to start moving and that we started generating the jobs that they can then take. we are better off than many states that there's suffering 10% to your 15% unemployment. 6.8% is still unacceptable. we are high in creativity. we have artists, singers, dancers. i think we have had more than our share of miss americas, but we do not want to stop. we are leader of energy, and we can be proud of that as well. there is an oklahoma standard, and it is something we should be proud of, and i know we are puree dead -- we are. >> i think oklahoma is one of the best kept secrets in the whole nation. we do have a great quality of life. we have a low cost of living. we have a low cost of housing. we have an abundance of natural resources, whether it is oil or gas or wind. our agricultural sector is very strong. we have low-cost utilities and water. we are a great place to

so it was a great experience. this said that there were really like to do it again, and, of course, one of the ongoing elements of the san francisco convention and visitors plan for enhancing tourism here in santa disco, and we're very grateful for all of the help and support. -- here in san francisco, and we are grateful for the help and support. next, i would like to report what is happening at once -- wharfs j8 and j7. the four has recently had to barricade areas around them. it is comprised of a central rock hill breakwater, constructed in 1917, with two dwarfs twowharfs -- two wharfs. what happened is that we had planned through our budget process to do repairs in this area, and when our maintenance team began to do the repairs, they found that the damage was more severe than anticipated, so we are having to rethink of those repairs. we are having to seek permits from bcdc. we are going through the process appropriately, and we are making accommodations for the public parking that occurs on that here as well
