. >>> let's check in with aaron gilchrist who is live on the scene there with more information about what's going on. aaron? >> reporter: yeah, eun, you can be sure that there were crews here from the philadelphia fire department as well as from amtrak and some federal agencies as well, they have been on the ground all night long, starting the investigation part of this incident because obviously, a lot of the people who were on the train have been removed. some were able to walk off on their own and now the investigation goes to see what actually happened here. you can see a map of the area we're talking about. it was north of the philadelphia train station. if you have taken amtrak before, you know that station. you come out, start heading north to new york city. that's where this accident happened, just a short distance away from there. here in philadelphia. if we can back out live, i want to show you what we have been able to see here from some of the damage. in terms of some of the damage here. if you look off in the distance you can see a power pole that's leaning to one side he

let's check in with aaron gilchrist where this crash occurred. good morning, aaron. what are you seeing right now? >> reporter: eun, good morning. this is still very much an active scene. that's spanning a fairly large area in this part of philadelphia. you may be able to see behind me some of the flashing lights. there are police officers the fire department. there are ambulances here on site as well. i want to show you some video from the scene of this train derailment. it is utter chaos here. you can see where each of those train cars came off the tracks. the engine on the train came off the tracks as well. about 9:30 last night. after it left the philadelphia station here on its way up to new york city and when the fire department came in and started to try to get a handle on this situation, there were people who were milling about who managed to get off the train themselves but there were also people stuck inside who needed a version of the jaws of life if you will to get train cars to open to peel them open so people can get out. we are left in many cases with

let's go back to our aaron gilchrist now. he's anchoring our coverage live from philadelphia. can you see now, aaron? >> reporter: eun, we have seen more and more investigators coming to the scene, some engineers who here all night and a new collapsed unit came from the philadelphia fire department a few minutes ago. as we talk about the investigation that's happening here today, as you look at the scene of that train derailment, you can't help but to remember that there were 243 people on board that train. so now their families are going to want to know how they are. all the folks who were injured here, the people who died here, their families are being brought to the elementary school here in this area. a hotline has been set up by amtrak so that the folks can call and get information about their family members and we're going to focus a lot over the next few days on those people who were on that train when this awful derailment happened. in darkness last night around 9:30. that's the latest from here in philadelphia. back to you guys. >> thank you. >>> our coverage doesn't

aaron gilchrist and adam tuss are in philadelphia and kristen wright is in philadelphia where many passengers got on that train. we begin with aaron, good morning. >> reporter: we did just learn that the black boxes, the event data recorders from the train that derailed here last night was recovered. it is now at the amtrak headquartelaware. investigators are going to be bringing in more people from the ntsb in the days to come to try to figure out exactly what happened here. the mayor of philadelphia michael nutter held a news conference where he expressed concern that there were people from the d.c. area on board that train when it derailed last night. the train took off from union station after 7:00. we know 6 people have been confirmed dead and right now not everyone has been coted for. some 243 people on board that plane, more than 200 people treated at area hospitals but we don't know that everyone has been accounted for at this point. i want to give you an idea of what's happening where we are right now not far from the train derailment. if you look back here about 200 yards or so. we

. >> i'm aaron gilchrist with our other breaking story. a shooting on i-295, one person is dead another in the hospital. megan mcgrath liv megan, what do we know so far? >> aaron, you can see the scene behind me here. the black suv in the middle of the road riddled with bullets. no traffic is moving on inbound 295, all lanes are closed as police investigate. this happened at around 8:45. between 8:45 and 8:55 this morning so rush hour. 295, of course, a very, very busy highway. there were lots of people around when this happened. now, what police believe occurred here is that this suv was traveling in virginia there is another vehicle following the suv. they then believe that they came into the district on 295 and right around 8:45 that's when someone in the other vehicle opened fire on the suv. there were two men inside one of those men was killed he is still inside the vehicle here on the scene. the other person was transported to the hospital with bullet wounds. now, there were a lot of people in the area obviously, because of the hour t
