the city council has approved a measure to scale back its tax abatement program. instead of being five full years, its six partial years and we think thats good for the citizens of des moines, those homeowners will start kind of contributing to the common good under the new plan... homeowners won't pay property taxes on construction for the first three years. the abatement then drops to 75 percent in the fourth year... and to 50 percent in year five. it's just 25 percent during the final year. instead of city - wide... the tax breaks will be limited to the area you see here. anyone building a home outside the green will pay the full property tax amount. the new program will run through 20-20. you can expect those outside dinner options in the metro to stick around... the des moines city council has vending pilot program." it's been underway for the past six months... and will now stick around for at least three more. council members say they hope to vote on whether to make the program permanent in january. the vote came as good news to many des moines residents...
