abercrombie earned $.87 per share, almost 50% more than anticipated. better inventory control met fewer sales, coupled with strong sales in scandinavia and china. here's that stock pop, up 34.5%. volume soared to 16 times in average pace. the store increased its full year outlook heading into the holidays. some analysts point out the stock had a bigger than average short position, meaning traders who were betting on the stock to drop, may have been forced to buy today, adding to the rally. another stock that may have benefited from bears being force to buy was facebook. despite the threat of hundreds of millions of shares becoming eligible for trading, facebook stock it at a two week high today. volume was extremely heavy with the stock up 12.6%. it was the heaviest trading volume for facebook since its first day as a publicly traded stock. starbucks continues having a taste for tea. just before the closing bell, starbucks confirmed it will buy teavana, expanding its business beyond coffee. starbucks is the buyer, spending $620 million for teavana, bas

abercrombie & fitch with third quarter results, raising outlook for the year.s surging on the news, although heavily shorted. courtney reagan. >> every indication pointed to expectations for another disappointing quarter for abercrombie & fitch. surprising nearly everyone but leaving many with some questions. for the third quarter abercrombie earned 87 cents, soaring past 59 cents expected by the street on stronger than expected revenues of 1.1 billion. they say most came from lower expenses. the company guiding full year earnings at robust $2.85 to $3 a share, blowing past the street's expectations for 48 cents. now, europe is a particularly important geography to the teen retailer. the debt crisis hasn't helped the past year. all signs pointed to another weak sales quarter for international, sales grew 37%. however, same store sales did fall 3%. that's a sharp improvement from last quarter's 26% plunge. ceo mike jeffries notes, our u.s. chain store business posted healthy growth on top of strong quarter a year ago and we saw a trend improvement in internation

other company i'd like to highlight -- abercrombie & fitch.ultiple checks here are saying lines out the door and a little bit less promotion than last year. finally, jcpenney. they decided to participate in black friday. this is a little bit of a departure from their strategy of every day prices. i definitely saw traffic there today. it will be interesting to see if they can sustain that through the holiday period as they move back to every day prices. >> what is ron johnson's strategy? i mean what -- that stock has just tanked this year. in some ways are you being a contrarian to buy that right now? >> you know, i'm kind of betting on the longer term. i think in terms of holiday, the fourth quarter's going to be really challenging for them and i don't think they're saying anything different than that. i think that's going to be a challenge. but today with the black friday promotions that they held, it did seem like they generated some incremental traffic so it will be interesting to see if they take those learnings into the longer term strate
