i'm the executive director of planning and engineering with ac transit. safety for our employees and our public are our paramount concern which is why ac transit focused on working with contractors, but particularly our bus operator training. we require ten weeks to train approximately 700 operators. before the start of our bus operator training, we will require certification of fire life safety at a minimum. recently, staff wrote ac transit advising that the certificate of occupancy of the entire facility will not be achieved before june 15. staff have offered a list of proposed interim life safety measures that your staff believe are sufficient to begin bus training, and our executive safety director concurs with those life safety measures. we understand that the bus deck testing is complete and they are are in receipt of the final striping and modification requests. we anticipate an in-person review of this final in may. we are hopeful these last housekeeping items will be successful to operator training. at this critical period, i must reiterate ac tr

yvonne williams: ac transit has to realize the seriousness of the problems. vicky: yvonne williams is the president of the union, representing more than 1300 drivers. she says ac transit is under reporting the number of assaults to the public. yvonne: we want to know when any member says that they've been assaulted. salvador llamas: and it's very shocking-- vicky: salvador llamas is the chief operating officer for ac transit. so, your security supports show assault are on a decline. salvador: yes. vicky: when we reviewed the videos, we found the assaults are actually increasing. were you aware of that? salvador: i think what you saw and the information that was provided to you was the clips that are labeled as assault. there is more report going on, which leads me to believe that our operators are more aware of some of these types of behaviors, and they're reporting that-- vicky: llamas says one reason the numbers don't match up is that ac transit doesn't count how many assaults are reported by its bus operators. they send that information to law enforcement.
