joining me now from boston is msnbc's adam reese. adam you had a snow squall.can you explain to viewers at home what that is? >> reporter: sure, reverend. good evening. four storms as you mentioned in less than two weeks. now we're up to 73 inches. so a big problem for officials here is what to do with all the white stuff. well, they bring it here to a snow farm one of a few snow farms in boston. we're in south boston. take a look behind me. these mounds of snow some of them are 40 feet and higher. trucks have been coming in all day long with piles and piles of snow. they bring it here. they bring it to the middle. these front loaders then take it over to the melter. they're bringing in melters from out of state because they have so much snow they need to melt down. some of the other snow is being brought to beaches south of here. along the coast. as you mentioned, 73 inches of snow. the governor says that they don't know what they're doing to do if it keeps piling up. he says like you said 90 times they could fill gillette stadium. he says they should have bid

joining me now is adam reese. thanks for joining me. do we have any more information about how this car ended up on those train tracks? >> reporter: we don't at this time. she appears to have been stuck there, alex. right now ntsb investigators have been combing through the charred wreckage looking for any clues. the suv was caught on the tracks. when eyewitnesses saw it on the tracks at the intersection the gate came down. the woman got out of the car and tried to lift the gate. got back into the car and then the train crashed into the car pushing it some 400 feet. they're going to want to talk to the conductor. they're going to want to look at videos and talk to eyewitnesses. obvious >> adam, what do we know about the information passengers were given immediately after the accident? >> reporter: one eyewitness said the conductor said we have hit a car or we have hit a vehicle. but according to that eyewitness who was on the train they said there was no other instructions. so as the car filled up with smoke and fire they were forced to

adam reese in white plains new york.ial 2016 candidate chris christie may have travelled to london to make a foreign policy splash but instead in hot water over vaccines. the new jersey governor who just left a meeting with prime minister david cameron is on a mission to promote business between his state and the u.k. but a statement about vaccine landed him in a debate in whether a vaccine against the measles should be mandatory. casey hunt joins us live with more on the exclusive interview from london. casey, how did the governor wind up in this vaccine muddle? >> well it was straightforward. he was touring a company here in the u.k. in cambridge actually. the company makes a vaccine. and afterward he spoke to reporters and i asked him whether he believes americans should have their kids vaccinated for measles. >> all i can say is we vaccinated ours. i think it is much more important as a parent than what you think as a public official and that is what we do. but i also understand that parents need to have some measure

. >> adam reese is in new york where the crash happened. what else is the ntsb looking at? >> reporter: good afternoon. the ntsb has taken the train away for further analysis and inspection. here at the hospital eight patients remain with injuries that range from burns and lacerations to broken bones. as you mentioned, the ntsb wants to talk to the engineer and could be conductor, they'll look at the recorders they retrieve and analysis is being done in washington and new york. they've downloaded the data that will tell them about the brakes and how fast it was going. they want to know what was she doing on the tracks at the time and why didn't she heed the advice of the driver behind her to back up off the tracks? they'll do a site survey that will tell them when the engineer saw the car as he approached and maybe when she saw the train as it approached her. they'll be here for five days and have a final report possibly it could take a year ronan. >> adam reese, thanks for the update. >> an overseas the death toll is rising in another deadly accident. the crash of transasi

. >> nbc's adam reese joins me live from the scene of the accident in valhalla new york. what's the latest on the investigation and the victims? >> reporter: good afternoon, joy. eight patients remain here at the hospital with injuries that remain from lacerations to burns to broken bones. investigators from the ntsb who want to talk to both the engineer and the conductor to find out what they know about the accident. they'll also be looking at the recorders. one was sent to washington one here in new york. the data has been downloaded. they'll analyze that for train speed and when the brakes were applied. they'll also want to know why did ellen brody stop on the tracks? did the gate come down? did she try to lift it up? why didn't she heed the passenger behind her who was urging her to back up? they'll also do a site survey to determine when the conductor or the engineer saw her as they approached and when she might have seen the train approaching and whether or not she could have gotten out of the way. they'll be here for about five days. they say they'll have a final r

. >>> i want to go to adam reese in valhalla new york. adam, good morning.t of unanswered questions this morning as investigators trying to get to the bottom of this horrific crash. >> reporter: good morning to you, jose. ntsb investigators on their way here this morning to the scene to find out what caused the crash that killed six people and injured 15. some of them very seriously. you can see the car, the jeep over my shoulder. she was attempting to cross over at the intersection when the gate came down according to an eyewitness. she got out of her car to lift the gate got back into her car attempting to cross over at the intersection and that's when the train slammed into her pushing her more than 400 feet down the tracks. now, the train never derailed. it stayed on the tracks. now, investigators will be looking into that gate and whether or not the train was going too fast. now, at the same time the third rail punctured the first car sparking a fire. there was lots of smoke and fire in the cabin. passengers rushed to get out. some punching through the

let's look at the roadways at this hour with adam reese. where are you and how bad is it out there right now? >> reporter: good afternoon, alex i'm in cambridge, jim is experiencing what we experienced about an hour ago, the snow and the wind have let up here and it's still very cold. bitterly cold and dangerously cold. take a look outside here in cambridge. the streets -- look at these cars completely completely buried in snow. 12 inches on the top of 83 that we have before. now, kevin, if you hang on i'm going to get out to give you a sense of how deep the snow is on top of the cars completely buried and i also want to invite adam and cathy here in cambridge. they were out today, one of the very few brave souls, kathleen is here with her two dogs. adam, give me a sense of what to make of all of this? >> in a way it's fun. you just sort of have to roll with it. i pulled 100 pound icicle off my roof the other day. it it almost took my head off and my teenage son and i had to melt it in the bathtub but you're making the best of it. kathleen,

. >> adam reese in boston where once again it is wicked cold. we'll talk about why you're not wearing a hat in just a moment but let's start with dominica with what's happening down south. >> well yeah. down south, that cold air has made its way through the ohio valley, and that's combining with the low pressure system making for snow and ice right now through the central and southern part of the country. so there's winter warnings and advisories. you can see now they extend through the ohio valley up into the mid-atlantic because we are expecting this system to continues to push east tonight, right through the day on tuesday. here's a look at the radar right now. and we do have heavy snow. it's coming down at a pretty good clip through southern and central kentucky. so louisville could get upwards of eight inches of snow by the time this pushes out late tonight, tomorrow morning. nashville as well is over that five-plus category. other than that memphis is looking at ice off to chattanooga chattanooga. could see ice spread through the carolina

adam reese is in boston. am what's it like there this afternoon and where are they putting all of that snow? >> reporter: dorian good afternoon. this is where they're putting all the snow. this is one of five snow farms in boston. you see the mound behind me 100 feet high. the excavators and the backhoes are pushing the snow back to make more room for this evening when 300 trucks are expected filled with snow because the mayor of boston wants all the snow clears as soon as possible because we're having another storm expected tomorrow. 1 to 3 inches. they're doing everything they can. then it is brought into the sewer system. it is treated and then it turns into water. in some ways they are gaining here in boston. >> are there many people out braving the storm or are most people staying at home today? >> reporter: we were in copley square this afternoon. more and more people are coming out. it is 16 degrees right now. feels like about 3 degrees above zero. for people here in boston it actually warmed up a bit.

adam reese is at the scene. the investigators, i understand it, have arrived. what's the very latest of some of the conditions of people that were on that train? >> reporter: tamron good morning to you. ntsb investigators here are on the scene. they just arrived within the last hour. now, six people were killed 15 injured. the jeep had stopped on the train tracks at the intersection. the driver got out to lift the gate. when she got out in an attempt to lift that gate she tried to then drive off and away and than when the train hit her, pushing her more than 400 feet down the tracks. ntsb investigators will look into the gate. they'll look into how fast the train was going. now, at the same time when the car was hit, the third rail the electrified third rail punctured the front car, sparking a fire. there was lots of fire and smoke in the car. passengers rushed to get out of the car. some of them punching through the windows to make their escape. now, governor cuomo said he's kind of surprised there weren't more injuries here considering the devastation to the
