. >>> right now the cdc advisory committee is meeting to review the pfizer covid vaccine for kids between15. they are combing through the data from pfizer's clinical trial that finds it's 100% effective for that age group. the fda expanded pfizer's emergency use authorization on monday to that age group and at this very moment, kids as young as 12 are already getting vaccinated in georgia. the state expanded eligibility on tuesday. they did that ahead of the cdc's formal approval. nbc's allison barber is at a vaccine site in stone crest, georgia. they are offering the pfizer shot to anyone over 12. what are you hearing from parents and from kids actually getting that shot? >> reporter: you know, for a lot of families, we know this from just looking at the polling, making the decision as to whether or not to vaccinate their child is not necessarily an easy decision. we've seen in polls there is a good bit of hesitancy among parents but for some this is just a no-brainer. we spoke to one parent who as soon as they found out that her 13-year-old was eligible, she made him an appointment and

there's a cdc advisory committee that still has to review this decision. but it is expected to be approved within days and kids could begin getting the shot as soon as this week. hear the specifics pfizer tested. this vaccine on more than 2000 volunteers ages 12 to 15 and great news. they found no cases of the virus among fully-vaccinated adolescence compared to 18 positive cases for kids who got the placebo. so the younger teenagers received the same amount of vaccine. the same dosage as adults too. and they had the same or similar side effects. mostly sore arms flulike fever, chills aches that signal of rev w system, especially after that second dose and this is certainly welcome news for families struggling to decide which activities are safe for their kids. when only the youngest members are still unvaccinated. >> children right now. we're struggling, particularly in those years when they're normally dealing with sports team activities drama things that require people gathering together. that the vaccine has the potential to be liberating right now wit

how did the cdc's advisory committee come to the conclusion and what are the implications?is trial data a few thousand children found there were no significant adverse events when people got this vaccine. nothing like the anaphylactic we heard with the adults. very safe and effective. in the placebo group, 18 people got sick, severely ill, nobody in the vaccinated group. there is benefit, as well. one thing to point out is i want to show you this graphic. you remember h1n1 in 2009 to give context here. that was a virus that primarily affected younger people. so yellow is covid, blue is h1n1 back from 2009. take a look. the point here is that hospitalizations from covid even among this age group are greater than they were with h1n1, which was something that of obviously we took seriously. you had it. >> i did, too. >> we were with the marines in afghanistan. last week the cdc warned that childhood vaccinations for other infectious diseases plunged since the start of the pandemic for the first time today, an expert from the cdc said it's okay to receive more than one vaccine
