troops on the ground in afghanistan. and we've spent more than $110 billion tax dollars to help rebuild the country. unfortunately, much of that money has been lost to waste, fraud, and abuse. in today's "follow the money," we track $85 million tax dollars down the tubes. the u.s. special inspector general for afghanistan reconstruction, john sopko, recently toured two abandoned construction sites in kabul. this one for a five-star marriott hotel proposed by a jordanian citizen and a u.s. it was to open in 2010. according to sopko, the federal agency in charge of overseeing the spending, the overseas private investment corporation, fell down on the job. it's funded by hundreds of millions of your tax dollars. also abandoned, a luxury apartment project next door that was supposed to open in 2013, but obviously didn't. the o.p.i.c. provided no on site monitoring of the projects as it u.s. taxpayers are also picking up the cost of security for the deserted buildings. sopko says the o.p.i.c.'s management failure may point to

nato stands with afghanistan in the fight against terror.ttacks, while rare, are not unprecedented. you'll remember a couple of years back in helmand province at camp bastian, taliban gun fighters were able to get on to an airfield and were running gun battles there. and even back in december at bagram, there were six u.s. service members who were killed when a person on a motorcycle blew themselves up. a motorcycle suicide bombing. so these attacks do happen. obviously, any u.s. military installation in a volatile country like afghanistan is going to be a target. it doesn't make it any easier for the families of those people who were killed and injured in this attack. they know the risks. but it's something that families never want to go through, of course. it's heartbreaking. >> no doubt about it. and will, i want to give you an update, because we're just getting it here. we're being told there are 17 people wounded, 16 of them are american. and again, four people killed, two of them, as will said, u.s. service members to u.s. contractors.
