doctors gave aimee a 1% chance of survival.ds, one of her legs and a foot, she's beaten the odds in an incredible fashion. aim's sister and father are "outfront" with the latest. great to see both of you. page, especially you, but andy let me start with you. i know she's leaving the hospital on monday and going to a rehab facility. what was her reaction when she found out? >> she's real excited. she's been seeing those four walls inside that hospital for a long time. just being able to get out and go for a stroll outside the hospital was one thing. being able to get out of the hospital and take the next step in her recovery process, i would say is about like you going to college for the first this is before she would get a prosthetic limb or anything like that, right? she's going to be learning how to move? >> that's correct. the first initial phase is for her to be able to learn without prosthetics. she needs to be able to develop the autonomy to be able to transfer from a bed to the wheelchair from the shower to the bathroom

she's not clumsy old aimee.what a beautiful image. >> andy, are you going to be able to -- i know you're trying to get your home ready. you have six to eight weeks while she's in this first step of rehab and then hopefully coming home. are you trying to change everything so she can he comb home and be able to move around? >> that's a really good question. in fact, i'm holdinging my hand here some drawings that were done by an architect to help us get our house ready. we actually -- if you could imagine a home builder that built a house and said i want to make it completely inaccessible for somebody disableded, that's what our house is like. we don't have a master bedroom or master bedroom on the main. we're building a special wing for her but we've got to find a home builder who can fast track this and give it a priority and make it happen. today i was trying to reach out to a really big home builder to see if they could make this a pry tear project and get somebody out there to knock it out on six to eight week

aimee's dad explained her phantom pains. although she has no hands, her brain is apparently still telling her body that the hands are there. aimee described the pain, saying "it feels like i have been carrying bags of rocks." >> generally phantom pain is sharp or burning pain in an area where they no longer have part of their limb. some people describe it as kind of dipping their limb into acid. >> reporter: aimee's father went on, explaining how the pain and frustration she was feeling caused her to uncharacteristically lash out at nurses. >> there needs to be a period of mourning or an opportunity for the patient to accept the loss of their limb. and so this will always take a psychological toll on our patients. >> reporter: aimee remains in critical condition and faces a mountain of medical procedures and rehab. despite her latest struggles, aimee's family says she's still showing a resilience they didn't know was possible. >> just seeing the strength that she had and the courage that she's displayed right now is just --
