the air drag depends on two things again. it depends on how big the thing is, how much air is plowing through and how fast it's going. you're in the car, you're driving the car. one of your friends is driving the car, you're going 20 kilometers per hour, you stick your head out the window. feel the air drag? now, the friend's going 50 kilometers per hour, you stick your head out of the window, more or less. now, your friend is going 100 kilometers per hour, you stick your head out of the window, what do you get? dandruff job, right? i mean that air resistance really builds up. the faster you go, the more the resistance, yeah. okay. so these people are both gonna go faster? how do you know they're both gonna go faster? because they're both accelerating, okay? now, they go faster until the air drag builds up too. i'm making these both pick up the speed the same, i'm really oversimplifying, gang, just to give you the idea. now, they're going so fast that the air drag builds up to 150. i got a question for you. do they both contin

- air drag. - air drag. they drag their feet in the air. here's a satellite, i mean i say that not literally. here's satellite plowing through, okay? now it's way, way up there, maybe a couple of hundred miles high, no air drag. but maybe sometimes it's in kinda low orbit. up here not too much drag but down here, you know what happened to the-- what was it? - skylab. - the skylab? skylab back in the 70s, it was in an elliptical orbit, okay, going around, around, around and what happened is there was a lot of solar activity and the atmosphere little bit deeper at times, and they thought, yeah, and this come in and hits a little bit of atmosphere. slows down a tiny, tiny bit, but once it slows down that means it's not gonna go so high next throw, huh? then it comes down, slow down a little bit more. next time up to here and so the orbit decays, because it drags its feet as it comes by and keeps decaying, decaying, decaying and then phoom, splasharoony. if you're going about 20,000 miles per hour and hit the air, guess what happens to you? oka

now, in the absence of air drag. it turns out with a projectile-- usually there is a lot of air drag like with a cannonball. but in the absence of air drag, that horizontal component of speed stays the same. that means it will always be kind of going this way. i'll tell you an interesting application of that. you know, when you throw a rock off a cliff, it keeps going out, out, out, and it gets steeper, steeper, steeper, right? it will never get so steep that it's vertical, 'cause it will always have this component of speed, you know? it's like, where i live-- i live at a place on the 32nd floor of a building, okay? and down here there's a swimming pool, and up on the top-- sometimes i think about, well, rather than getting the elevator, come all the way down, and have to come out open the door, go through the gate, come in and-- why not just.. aired before romney's 47% flop. what is it about mitt romney that's allowing the president to escape being dragged down by this economy? >> well, i think there are a couple of things at play and that skit is absolutely right, part of it is mitt romney himself. whether it is true or not and certainly the romney campaign will argue it is not, people look at him personally and think, he doesn't understand someone like me, he doesn't understand someone in my situation. that's always a critical question that folks ask themselves and that pollsters ask people, who best understands the needs of people like you? mitt romney doesn't do well on that. they think he's either too rich or too out of touch or doesn't understand what it's like to grow up tough. i will tell you the other thing that's playing into this election is that that poll that you showed is really interesting because people are saying, we think things are really bad now. you think, what in the world constitutes all this support for president obama? and when you ask the question, how do you think economic conditions will be in the future, it's almost a reverse. 6
