joining me now to talk more about this is al sharpton. following the story and the host of politics nation. reverend, thanks for being here. you have been reporting on this case and you had the opportunity to sit with troy davis as well as his mother. what did you learn? >> i got involved in this case several years ago with the network and i met with troy davis once on death row once about two years ago with one of the local minsters. he stated unequivocally he was not involved in the killing of the officer, the off duty officer who all of us clearly want to see justice for. there is no one that is excusing the fact this man was killed and there should be a just resolve to that for his family. if troy davis is not the guilty party, that is not giving justice to the family. he was able through his sister and others to establish that he was convicted with no dna, no physical evidence, nothing that would approve him in a physical way connected to the killing. the gun was never recover and he was convicted with the testimony of nine witnesses

" ♪ ♪ >>> good evening. i'm michael smerconish in for chris matthews. leading off tonight, political football. let's agree there were no winners in yesterday's foolish you're a jerk, no, you're a jerk debate over the timing of the president's jobs speech, but in washington, when no one win, the president often loses. republicans have to be thrilled they stuck another thumb in the president's eye and mr. obama supporters are holding their heads in their hands over what tears to be another cave-in by the white house. the speech will air before the opening of the nfl season but the larger lesson seems to be if the president and john boehner can't agree on scheduling. what makes anyone think they'll be able to work together in creating jobs? every concession, every bad poll that comes out seems to make president obama's re-election less likely, but the white house is looking to two former presidents who won despite terrible economic times for inspiration.
