alex hogan. fox news.e crews are on the scene of a brush fire today that broke out last night and contra costa county. the flames and smoke were first reported shortly after six last night, an old school road in the community of tassajara near danville. the fire briefly prompted an evacuation morning, but crews managed to contain the fire after a burned about five acres cruise from san ramon valley fire protection district and cal fire have been monitoring that area for hot spots. a suspected drunk driver never has been arrested after police say he hit and killed a person walking near downtown san jose and then drove off. that crash happened near all madden avenue and willow street last night. police have not released many details. they have only said the driver was arrested shortly after the incident on suspicion of drunk driving and hit and run. the name of the person who was killed, has still not been released. this is the 38th deadly crash in san jose so far this year. an update now on a story we've be

alex hogan is on the east end of long island. blem by hear, it's a very windy moment right now. these are the strongest winds we have felt all day, so it's a dangerous time to be at the beach for anyone down here and the winds, again, increasing. however, the rain's mostly subsided. we saw the worst conditions here around 11:00 a.m. that was when henri was passing and now it's continuing to move north. you can see the heavy storm surge behind us, these are 10 feet high. we saw kite surfer out there earlier. the national hurricane center is warning there are extremely dangerous riptide right now. we have lifeguards on-hand, making sure no one goes in the water at any time. we've had a lot of bystanders to come out and see what the storm looks like for themselves. many did prepare. some said they were happy to step in if anyone else could not. >> there's plenty of friends, family and community members that are willing to help. you have a lot of workers out here with chainsaws and trucks and like i said, everybody's always willing to

alex hogan is in the middle of the storm at the tip of long island. ter: we are in the outer ring of henri as it passes through and to give you a look at what we're seeing right now, the wind is just pummeling us, you can feel the sand picked up by the strong wind and the rain. if you take a look at here, we have teenagers officials and the national hurricane center are warning not to do because of these dangerous riptides that we see right now. fire island was actually evacuated yesterday, a voluntary evacuation, because of how high the storm surge would be and they even canceled all of the ferries today because it would be impossible to get people off of the island because of these winds and of course the waves that we're seeing right here so this is what officials are urging people not to do, to stay home. the roads, many are flooded, urging people to stay back if they can. of course, with supplies. we know that at least 1800 customers are out of power, something that is exact expected to continue as the storm moves through continuing to knock out p

alex hogan is standing by with reaction from a haitian community in new york city. fox weather meteorologist adam klotz is live, but we first go to ryan chilcote live with what we know so far about that earthquake. ryan. >> reporter: hi, arthel. well, haiti just a country that can't catch a break, can it? this earthquake, as you said, had a mag magnitude of 7.2. that's a big quake. it occurred about 5 miles off the haitian coastline, about 90 miles from the capital of haiti. and at a depth of about 10,000 meters, that's 6 miles beneath the surface. that is actually a relatively hallow depth for an earthquake like this. and when you have an earthquake like this, two immediate concerns. the first, that you could have a tsunami at a depth like that. now, the u.s. did issue a tsunami warning but then lifted that, and anecdotal local reports we have is that there was some coastal flooding in at least one town, but then the water appears to have retreated, so good news there. the second danger, and this appears to be a much larger problem, is, of course, the damage the qu
