water main break is causing problems for people trying to get around alexandria. it has left more than a couple buildings, including condos, without water. >> reporter: this water main blew early this morning, and a gush of water ran down alexandria street. this is nothing like what we saw earlier this morning. they are doing work. they opened up the pipe again. we are seeing water flowing down the street once again. crews are on the scene. they have located all of the gas lines and other utilities in the area. they also located the pipe that was affected and figured out exactly where the break was. they will begin to dig up the pipe here shortly, and then they will get to work repairing the road. while they do their work, hundreds of people are without water, including folks at a nearby hotel. >> we are going to walmart to get some gallon bottles of water. >> not exactly the kind of vacation experience they were looking for. this family visiting from port smith, virginia, woke up to find no water. >> could not take a shower. >> not too good, but we are going to t

this is where former alexandria police chief dey baker will spend the next five days in a cell in the arlington county jail. baker stayed out of public view as he came to court and pleaded guilty to the dwi charge facing him. baker's attorney says the former chief rejected any notion of fighting the charge. >> i think that the way dave sees this is that he supposed to be a role model and is supposed to be an example. he made a mistake. and he should pay the appropriate price for it. you know, as a lawyer, you think that -- only need to pay the price if the government can prove you did it. but he chose not to put him through that. >> reporter: with nearly 40 years of law enforcement experience, baker had been a highly respected chief in alexandria. but his career began to unravel the night of july 25th when he struck another car on his ramp to i-66. baker's blood alcohol level was .19. more than twice the legal limit. the though and supporters urged him to stay on as chief three days later city leaders announced baker resigned taking early retirement. now his guilty plea puts the crimi
