ali? >> chris, you're not alone there. this is not a state where we typically see democratic candidates.nk elizabeth warren came here in august. but it's a rare stop. it's also the way of the bloomberg campaign showing that they have a very national strategy here. we knew that when they said they were skipping the first four states that we typically see candidates in. this sort of shows us that in real time. we were in virginia yesterday, a place where democrats made gains recently in the statehouse, flipping it from red to blue. today bloomberg in another state the democrats hope to flip in the general election in 2020. i think the best way to think about the bloomberg campaign is they're running two races simultaneously. he's running against other democrats to win the nomination. arizona is one of the march primary states. but he's waging the attack against donald trump early. when they say national strategy, look at where they're putting the ad buys. they're putting them across the country. yes, states that benefit him in the primary, but also states that are going to benefit him if h

ali, we'll see you back here in an hour. good afternoon, i am chris jansing in for katy tur. any moment now from the two key witnesses in the impeachment inquiry as democrats put more of their investigation out into the open. this is day 43 of the impeachment inquiry, and here's what's happening. democrats have just released excerpts from the transcripts of their closed door depositions with gordon sondland and former special envoy to ukraine, kurt volker. in the transcript we learned that ambassador sondland said that it was his understanding that a meeting between presidents trump and zelensky was conditioned on ukraine investigating 2016 meddling and the bidens. in short, he testified there was a quid pro quo. volker testified it was rudy giuliani, the president's personal attorney, who led a shadow foreign policy c

stephanie ruhle, thank you nor overtime here on the sunday, and ali vitali with you out there in the field. and more analysis, joining us chris liu and susan dell persio. and what is your reaction >> i think that he can do this. he has great credibility on two key issues for democrats gun safety and climate change. his money has helped the democrats in 2018, and in virginia take back both to house and the senate, and unlike, you know, tom stire and howard schultz, he has experience in the office. and so it is not conceivable that you could have three or four different candidates to win the early states and go into the super states of california, texas and virginia and depleted of the resources and a bloomberg to come in to buy up a lot of ads at this time. so certainly, obstacles to overcome with the progressive base and african-americans, but he is an intriguing candidate for a lot of people. >> susan, your thoughts? >> he is going to be an intriguing candidate and it makes sense to skip the early lates, because he won't do well entering so late in iowa, new hampshire and south carolina and nevada. but it makes sense for him
