this will be a walked through that part of town to look at alleyways, gardens and those kinds of things. that concludes my report. >> it good afternoon, the commissioners. here for your weekly report on the board of supervisors and land use activities. eight washington was back before the board this week. this is a proposal to abolish the golden gate tennis club and construct a new health club. some retail and 380 some parking places. in may, the board upheld the authorization by an 8-3 vote. this week, the land use committee considered to ordinances, both of which would allow for a height increase of the property. the board president joined in to the committee and a question that staff on the height change and asked why it was being related board toward downtown buildings and not the 40 foot residential buildings. the chair of the committee stated he would like to see reduced parking for the project. while there were close to 30 speakers, the hearing was much closer and that the majority of speakers were in support of the ordinances. at the board president's request, the item was refer

the alleyways in the neighborhood are some of the most charming places, pleasant and active with the smaller- scale buildings. we have designed this as a living valley, with special paving and places to sit, a place for people to be, cyclists, with less emphasis on vehicles. the pattern for vehicles is 1- way travel, and to further reduce the traffic -- the access into the garage is on the lower end. and the exit is that the lower end. they all circulate in -- and we have paid a lot of attention to the rest of the public frontage as well, continuing this pattern of paving the landscape on to octavia. at both those major intersections to improve pedestrian safety. just a cross-section of his -- victor -- hickory street, this is the concept level. we have to get the in kind agreement in place. parking is located in a slow to rise, which allows for this to be concealed from the street frontage, with 0.5 cars per unit, 35 less than will be allowed in the plan -- though we placed a lot of emphasis on was bicycle parking. there are two storage and maintenance facilities, at grade level off

previously -- as far as i know, we are not going to raise chinatown or widen all the sidewalks and alleyways where some businesses are located. things like that, what can be done, what is the responsibility of the businesses? another issue that i think we have to deal with is the education stuff. we do education, even around tenants. we go around to the buildings and educate tenants who do not own the buildings and are not doing construction, they have no plans to do construction. we educate them on code violations. it would not hurt if we coordinated -- maybe the department can take this on financially totally, but it is incumbent on the city to do more massive education for small businesses. the other thing we should discuss with the small business commission, i know a lot of times commissions go through existing bodies. we go through the chamber of commerce, the older and more established business associations, but unfortunately, a lot of smaller and ethnic businesses do not belong to those associations. they do not belong to the chamber. so we have to maybe work with the city to improve

are happy to learn that some of them turned out to be enforceable obligations, whether it was the alleyway improvements, which people were concerned about. one of my concerns now is we have many departments owning this work, whether it is the city administrator, mayor's office of economic develop a work force, dpw, mayor's office of housing. i am curious on how we plan to retain discussion and communication, and whether we can do more consolidating? in particular, there seems to be a lot of overlap between the city administrators on community ambassadors, central market partnerships, small business improvements, and economic development. i think it can be challenging. i have seen this in our work with pedestrian safety when we have too many departments to work with, sometimes things fall through the cracks and there is not a lot of ownership for the work. i am curious to see whether that dialogue is taking place right now. in particular, i know the city administrator is taking on a large portion of rda, along with the community ambassadors program, along with amid market citizens advisory
