tenures ago, floodwaters swept through the town of alstead. jean mackin return to alstead to show us how the town is remembering the day. jean: many people recall vividly where they were 10 years ago at 7:25 in the morning, when the wall of water where each -- water reached this spot. the rows of photographs displayed kerry flood survivors back to october 9, 2005. days of unrelenting rain collected by dozens of acres. it was held back by a hill at the top of a town until the earth gave way. while many were saved by early evacuations, four lives were dozens of homes swept away, along with everything in the path of that wall of water. >> the town came back and worked together and made it what it is today. it is because we are a small tong and we all work together. -- small town and we all work together. jean: the alstead historical society documented the disaster and rebuilding. from the photos of the roads broken, debris recovered, and even the pan used by the governor to sign the buyout bill for flood properties. >> many organizations work tog

a plaque was unveiled this afternoon in alstead, as the town commemorates 10 years since the flood. the stone was built into a rock on the edge of the cold river. wmur' s mike cronin was at today' s dedication. he joins us live with more. mike: it was a low-key but sessional ceremony -- special ceremony as they remember the day that change this town forever. dozens came to see the plaque revealed, built memory of the four lives lost and recognition of the property and homes destroyed and gratitude for those who helped with rescue and recovery on october 9, when floodwaters swept through the town. everything in the town was rebuilt and now the plaque has become part of history. they cost $1000 to build and was paid for by resident donations of $20 and five cents, representative of the year 2005. people say it is important to remember and come together on a day like this. >> this is all part of our psyche now that this happened and we dealt with it. it looks so nice around here now. >> very painful. but this is a special town. i' ve always thought so. all these people around me, i kno
