i'm ama daetz. >> and i'm larry beil.a county reported its first case of coronavirus. it actually was the first case in the entire bay area. take a look now at the journey that our region has been on. every day abc7 has been keeping track of new cases diagnosed in the bay area, as well as a rolling seven-day average. you see the summer surge, and that was absolutely dwarfed by the winter surge. at the worst point, more than 6,000 cases were reported in a single day. but now check out the rolling average. that yellow line dropping, and the lower it goes, the better that we feel. and that's because protecting our health is part of building a better bay area. it's a commitment that we've made as a tv station to you. and it's why we want to know and want you to know what action is being taken in santa clara county. that's the most populous one in the bay area to show what they're trying to do to slow the spread of the coronavirus. abc7 news reporter chris nguyen has some answers. >> reporter: tonight a number no one wanted to
