with additional rainfall as well, 15 to 30 inches, storm surge, a lot of i do believe we have amelia draper on the ground out there outside of houston watching it. amelia, what do you see right now? >> reporter: well, lauryn, a steady rain, winds not a big concern. it's all about the flooding. yesterday when we got into town we stopped at the grocery store. the first place we stopped was completely out of large bottles of water. the second place we went to had a limit. each customer bought two pallets of water. we saw maybe a couple going in and separately buying in total four pallets of water to stock up. residents heard the message the forecast is going to be catastrophic. we also talked to a lot of folks last night when we had some power outages start. they simply made the decision to get out of town. a lot of folks in the galveston area. to give you guys an idea, we're situated, our hotel south of houston. we're about 10 miles away from galveston. today we had about a 30-minute ride from driving around we you a areas like this where we are we are seeing minor flooding. folks able to get

storm team 4's amelia draper is in the houston area with more on the area getting a bit of drying out. that's a good thing. you want to see the floodwaters come down. driving around, we're seeing areas that are flooded. you can definitely see how high the waters were. take a look behind me right now. we're along state highway 3 right now. you can see folks sittigetting here fine. further to the south and the north, in the city of houston and then again to the south where we're still seeing flooded neighborhoods. you can see this kind of retention pond that runs along the road here collecting water so folks can get out and about. i do have to mention that so many businesses closed here, restaurants, stores, a lot of people hunkering down in a hotel. that's what officials want folks to do here is just to stay in place until the storm finally leaves the area. so throughout the day on monday, we should say, mainly dry with some rain starting to move back in. as harvey is expected to out into the gulf and come back in, we'll see more potentially flooding rains into the middle part of the w

here is amelia draper, what do you know? >> i want to show when the tornado was on the ground touching down at about 1:40 in the afternoon, it puts it from about 1:35 to 1:45, you can see right there on the center of your screen, you see the heaviest range to the north of salisbury. the tornado was actually just south by the university. going to hone down in tornado was on the ground. it was right in this area, take a look at the path here. i've drawn that on. this was the path impacting parts of the university, passing over route 13 and traveling up towards the north and the east on the ground for about a mile and a half. but the thing is there was only a severe thunderstorm warning issued for the tornado, not a tornado warning. why is that? well, here is salisbury, here you see the sweeping, this is the radar they used out of wakefield. so as the radar beam goes away from the radar, it actually travels up in the sky. so what happened yesterday, the beam was over shooting the rotation that was down on the ground with that t

. >> our team coverage continues now with storm team 4 meteorologist amelia draper, she's been toughing it out in texas since friday. harvey has now, officially, set a rainfall record, hasn't it? >> reporter: yeah. the most rain fall with any one storm in the lower 48. if it gets above 52 inches, it will be ever. a little upset. it's going to be okay we'll have a live interview with the coast guard. they're staying at our hotel, kind there. the bus pulled up. we're not going to keep them going to save lives. we know that the group that just left, they saved a family yesterday, another coast guard member i was talking with just happened to cut a hole in an attic with a home that was severely flooded and they found six people in there, two infants, two elderly being among those folks. the rain, guys, here continues to fall. we're noticing incredible flooding across the area. we were able to get around okay today. but i have to say we only stayed within a mile of our hotel because the grocery store lines are about two hours, at this point. we're seeing curfews put out. the looting hasn't b
