amelia segal joins us live from the reston parkway. >> reporter: we're here just north of the dulles toll road. my photojournalist larry said driving out here was white increase he will driving. roads were snow covered on the dulles toll road. and there were a lot of snowy spots, as well, just getting out of the district. i have my ir thermometer. i tested it against my hand and the heat in our live truck. and what i'm going to do now i'll point it at the sidewalk here. the sidewalk is coming in the temperature here minus 15 degrees fahrenheit. it is frigid out here. that's the surface temperature, but just to give you an idea. and because the surfaces are so cold you can see the sidewalk is still covered in snow and the roads seeing much of the same issue. you saw a lot of trucks out trying to treat the roads, but about a the temperatures are so cold salt is less effectity and it's making it so difficult to clear. this is the reston parkway. as the sun comes up that will help to clear surfaces. but we were be looking at a lot of slick spots heading out this morning. and it is frigid
