then when tom ammiano ran against willie brown, i got inspired. i thought, someone with integrity and honesty, if they can run for mayor, maybe i can be somebody who represents what is true about our people. that is what inspired me to run and be a candidate. one thing this year that i really tackling, and i expect to for a long time, looking at me and how it operates in my district. san francisco, we talk about it being a transit first city, but it does not mean a lot if transit is not very well thought out in places away from downtown. my district is where we need to create better options. all the way down to randall street, there is no accessible boarding areas for the church. there is a woman that lives in a wheelchair on santa rosa. she has to go across to glen park to get out transit. >> those new stations, those are the ones that we are going to have to depend on. >> along balboa park station, near geneva, i have been pushing hard to get ramps for pedestrians. right now, it is dangerous to cross the street. i want to insure the department o

enrichment -- public education enrichment fund or peef and also our arts master plan that assemblyman ammiano was championed in many ways of prop h and many of you and parent leaders have been over the years. i'm very proud of the work that our school district has done to support the arts and continues to do in every way. i think you know the quote by pablo picasso that every child is an artist and the problem is on how to remain an artist once we all grow up. i think the school district through this arts festival shows they are providing opportunities, regardless of income and background, for every child in the district, but of course we need to do more. so, reauthorizing the peef funds and the rainy day funds as well and other efforts to support our district are critical right now as we celebrate the youth and young people's arts festival at the asian art museum. so i look forward to seeing some of you at the performances and checking out the art in the asian art museum on behalf of the youth arts festival. lastly i am producing an imperative item or i have introduced an imperative item tod

assembly man tom ammiano has his own story about bullying but you are the author of what we've been talking about today. >> it sounds trite, but all politics being personal, you've probably heard that before many times. in the case of this bill, that does ring true. i was on the bridge board for many years and meeting after meeting parents would come, particularly of teenagers who had jumped, and it was heart breaking and poignant and that feeling of helplessness that we all have, very reminiscent of this story and of your story in terms of what the parents go through and the inaction. and we finally were able to get a suicide deterrent plan and we're looking forward to getting that money authorized soon so that we can start construction. but as a kid in the 50's in newark, new jersey, i was, shall we say, a little fey, a little high strung, my mother used to say. i guess like a moth to the flame attracted all kinds of undesirable attention including from some of the teachers. we had a football/history teacher who just loved tormenting me, surrounding me with other members of the football t
