amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >>> 5:03. this saturday california's municipal redevelopment agencies disappear to help balance the state budget also the day 80 oakland workers will be notified they are out of a job the two events are linked. katie marzullo is live in the newsroom to explain. >> reporter: the lack of redevelopment funding leaves oakland 28 million dollars in debt. that money was contributing for to the salaries of 200 city employees in 11 departments. 200 people are not being laid off and there is other good news. funding has been saved for the oakland zoo, children's father land, hacienda historical -- park and some jobs in the original proposal, those community destinations faced a 40% cut to their budgets. new budget leaves them whole. however in the final plan 105 positions eliminated. not all were filled so 80 people losing their jobs. the city is going to sell a former fire station and parks and recreation and human services departments are merging that could mean some centers will have to reduce their

amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >>> 4:33.california's air quality is wading back into the fore -- attorney general is wading back into the foreclosure crisis. this time tamala harris wants something very big. >> reporter: attorney general harris is asking fannie mae and freddie mac to stop all home foreclosures for now it would be a massive move between the two of them they own more than 60% of california mortgages. harris wrote a letter to the agency which oversees fannie and freddie. she wants the agency to do a full analysis and figure out if reducing the mortgage principle of underwater homeowners would help and if it would save taxpayer money. the agency has spoken odd to the litter. we don't know what -- has responded to the letter. we don't know what the response said. she secured for california 18 billion dollars out of a 26 billion dollar settlement with five banks to also help underwater homeowners. harris says that deal provides a historic opportunity for fannie and freddie to also work with california homeowners.

amy hollyfield joins us outside court with more. >> reporter: good morning. there were 11 occupy oakland protesters in court today they had a lot of support. we saw about 50 activists and they had a peaceful presence in court. they watched quietly as their fellow occupiers appeared. the defendants were charged with maliciously blocking a sidewalk and they did not enter pleas they told us they want to file a motion to dismiss the charges. the attorneys say they believe the charges are bonus. those who were in court told us it was comforting to have the other activists here. >> occupiers are great we turn out and support our friends. there are a bunch supportedding us arrested unjustly this was a -- peaceful group. >> that is inappropriate to convert this charge to charge people for blogging the sidewalk for ultimately just participating in a social movement that is addressing some of the most desperate problems that we have as a country today. >> reporter: the night these people were arrested was a quiet night in the occupy movement. it was january 4th. these

amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >>> 4:32. alameda county leaders are taking a wait and see approach after accusations of a sex tape and blackmail scheme surfaced involving supervisor nadia lockyer. the video showing her and a man she met in rehab in 2010 was sent to her husband state treasurer bill lockyer. lockyer described the man as a stalker and asked authorities to investigate. authorities concluded the relationship was consensual. this month nadia had a violent encounter with the man at this hotel that left her with head and neck injuries. she has since checked into a center for substance abuse. other supervisors are giving her the benefit of the doubt, for now. >> we are very concerned about how the county looks and is perceived. we want to go about our business in a professional manner. these type of scandalous allegations don't help our cause. >> the san jose man is not being charged. he is reportedly facing unrelated charges of dui and possession of methamphetamine. >>> a kidnapping suspect is in custody in san jose
