joining us, amy klobuchar. your colleagues said this bill is not windowdressing.ment and how much progress is there >> yes i do. the first important point is this bill will save thousands of lives. this is in everything i would've wanted to do. i think chris would say the same thing. we had republicans that were willing to come to the negotiating table. i would've band assault weapons at least for 18 and b,21. what did they do? they actually did something that will save lives. number one, you can now look at the records of these b,18-b,21 and take the time to talk to police officers in the area and find out what's going on. that wasn't happening before. number two. the boyfriend loophole. 600 women a year ago and down in domestic violence cases. half have dating relationships. they are not married to the person. that is a loophole in the law they get convicted of domestic abuse and they can get a gun. that has changed. so many criminals go out there and get guns on behalf of someone else that and from getting a gun. read lag law funding. mental health funding. i t

among even senators, who feel that amy klobuchar showed me this yesterday -- others are joining in, on the judiciary committee have susan collins is a critical vote. joe manchin, another critical vote not on the judiciary committee. they feel they were lied to, frankly. because their specific questions and answers in their confirmation hearings, and hundreds have been released by the new york times, which we have not independently confirmed as a private meeting between senator collins and justice capito. where he said, this is a 45-year precedent. at the time was 45 years and, you know he very clearly said he would stick with the president of roe v. wade. they feel misled. >> well you know, i think it's one thing to say your answers the confirmation hearing seemed to say that you would go with the presidents. it's another thing if they were reassurance giving it a private setting that went beyond that. because i think every republican appointee sort of says basically the same thing about roe v. wade. one of the things that i found puzzling about the decision is, the courts seemed to sa

senator from minnesota, amy klobuchar. thank you for being here.this ruling deeply disappoints you, but the logical next question is, what are you, you being congress, going to do about it. >> well, i think that's a good question to ask our republican colleagues who put these judges on the bench who are working against the interests of the american people. we have 80% of the people with us on this that want roe v. wade upheld, and we also have women who are going to be affected all over the country, over 20 states already have laws in place that could be used to restrict access to an abortion, include 13 states which will automatically go into effect. literally they have said in this decision that a woman shouldn't be making her own decisions, but instead, politicians should be making them. what's next, lester, the big thing that's next is the election, and women and the men that support them are going to be going in droves to the ballot box. because this supreme court is taking us back to the 1950s. it's taking us back to the 1850s. >> do you thin

so, democratic senators were telling me on friday, and in the aftermath of this, like amy klobuchar,a 50/50 senate they don't see anything short of changing the filibuster, which has been a non-starter with, as you know, joe manchin, to have any effect. on this court ruling. what say you? >> there is an enormous amount of anger through the democratic party as a result of this supreme court decision. they do have public opinion on their side, there is broad disapproval of the fact that roe v. wade was overturned. the question what democrats do about it. they are strand inside congress. they have a bill to codify roe v. wade, half the house of representatives, but doesn't have a path through the united states senate. what many democrats are doing or trying to do is channel that anger towards the midterm elections, pleading with voters to show up this fall, elect more democratic candidates and give, you know, create a new united states congress that can codify roe v. wade. there is a new cbs poll that shows a majority of democrats say there are more likely to vote in this midterm electi
