an iowa man is in the hospital criical condition following a milk truck accident. the crash took place on highway 61 in grant county, wisconsin this morning. grant county sheriff's office says russelel mcallister waa driving his milk truck when jaun lourens lost control of his van -- and hit the truck head on. the milktruck spun out of control -- rolled to its top -- and then caught fire. mcallister was able to escape through the windshield. lourens was trapped in his van after it went into the ditch. rescuers used the jaws of life according to authorities -- lourens is in critical but stable condition. the crash is under investigation. the new year begins with a shooting in downtown waterloo -- after night of celebrating near club 3-1-9. several people were arrested for weapons and one is in the hospital. police say this all started when the club tried to get people to 2 a.m. no one would leave....and some people took the party to the alley.. someone in a group of people then shot 31 year old ramirez gary in his leg....causing everyone to take off running in every

video and audio from an iowa state university campus bus led police to arrest a man in the death of iowa state student emmalee jacobs today. 23-year-old benjamin clague is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and failure to obey a traffic control device. police say he was driving the cyride bus that hit jacobs on the morning of december 14th. the 18 year old jacobs was crossing the street on the south side of the iowa state campus. police say around seven in the morning, clague's bus hit jacobs. no one else was on the bus at the time of the crash. an i-s-u police officer found her body in the street. one ames police investigators

an iowa man is convicted of possessing a firearm as a felon and crack cocaine with the distribute. 32-year-old marchello rembert, of waterloo, found guilty by a jury in federal court in cedar rapids. of last year and found 15 bags of crack cocaine in his front pocket. a loaded pistol was also found in his girlfriend's vehicle, which was later linked to rembert. he faces as many as 30 years in prison. a local fire department is undergoing training for ice and cold water rescues. the department used such training in real life situations, eight times last year. you can see cedar rapids firefighters here jumping into the icy water. they practice both saving themselves as well as playing the victim, and having others come to their rescue. the suits they are wearing are insulated so they don't get it's an annual training that's very timely this week -- following the tragic loss of a hits home pretty well we had quite a few guys that went down and assisted with the drowning in johnson county so the importance is definetely there." fire crews cycled in to get their training throughout the day

an iowa city mother is just starting a 25-year prison sentence for the death of her son. son. mireya balderas was charged in the death of 20-month-old marcus in 20-12.balderas entered what's called an alford plea - where you do not admit guilt but recognize that the prosecution has enough evidence to support it's case against you.she made that plea in october and was sentenced monday.her boyfriend, jorge perez, is already serving a 50- year-sentence in the toddler's death. at the state capitol, state senators are hearing from iowa's medicaid director about aboutplans to privatize the system in about a month. critics say the plan will do little to save the state money, and is moving too fast--causing confusion and even lapses in coverage for some iowans.those in charge of putting it all together to make sure everything goes smoothly--including communication training for the managed care companies.
