an iowa man is accused of severely beating a woman. michael kelley, of west branch, is now facing charges. he's being held in the cedar county jail. the woman was found in his bedroom and had to be taken to the hospital. she's in critical condition today.

the trial for a man accused of killing an iowa city landlord is on hold. a judge granted a stay for justin marshall's trial. the court is waiting until the u-s supreme court decides on a petition for review, filed b t office. in 2013, a jury convicted marshall of shooting and killing john versypt. he died in october of 2009. but marshall's conviction was overturned, and the state supreme court ruled he should get a new trial. that's because authorities relied on testimony of a jailhouse informant, which violated marshall's right to an attorney. in cedar rapids, police are looking for a shooter after gunshots were heard in the city's southeast side. officers afternoon. people at the scene tell us they saw people fighting in that area. police have not made any arrests. a cat is left with broken ribs and hips. now, a 25 year old man is charged with animal torture. court records show gibson neblett abused a cat named melvin in august and september. they also show the cat's owner told police neblett was the only person with melvin when the injuries happened. ca
