in all, andrea stabbed him a total of six times.e to cut mcrae's wallet from his back pocket. she also took his keys. a tremendous amount of blood had been spilled. police think andrea's contention that she got a nosebleed during the struggle was probably the only thing about her story which was true. that's how her blood dripped on to the comforter on pat's bed. she walked through the rooms trying to clean up the blood, but there was simply too much of it. blood found on the curtains showed she opened them to see if mars had returned. when he arrived, andrea left through the front door and locked it on her way out, tracking fresh blood across the front porch. several hours later, when she realized she had left her wallet behind, she returned, tracking dried blood on top of the foot impressions left earlier, proving there were two separate visits and proving mars davis had been telling the truth. >> she said that she killed the guy. >> did she say why? >> because they told her to. >> they meaning who? >> these voices that she heard

good day, i'm andrea mitchell in washington. putin rejecting the plea to pull the troops back to the barracks. they could permanently change by trying to rejoin russia. what should the administration be doing? senator john mccain joins us. let's stipulate. you've been saying since the 2000 debate again in 2008 when georgia pulled away, you've said most recently when this crisis first erupted that we have to keep crimea together with ukraine and we have to deal with this issue. what should the administration do going forward? >> i think many things and i'll try to be brief. one is a fundamental understanding of vladimir putin. they have been near delusional in thinking the cold war was over. maybe the president thinks the cold war is over, but vladimir putin doesn't and that's what this is all about. ukraine, the major base which is his access to the mediterranean, russian fleet and so we have to -- excuse me -- understand vladimir putin, what he's about. he's still back in the cold war, kgb colonel that he is. one of the things

i would say this, andrea. went back and looked because i knew we were going to be talking about it. i looked at the exit polling from 2010 in the texas governor's race when rick perry beat bill white, the former mayor of houston. the vote was 50% women, 50% men. so evenly split in terms of the composition vote. rick perry actually won women by eight points, 53-35 over bill white. if wendy davis has a path to victory, and i still think that's a big if, it quite clearly goes through moving that bill white number at 45% way up, certainly winning a majority. comments like this i think do probably help her do that, but again, this is texas. i always remind people, it is at this point hard sledding for any democratic candidate statewide. >> it's been hard for wendy davis. there's no question that there have been mistakes in her campaign. there are many times when i sort of wish that anne richards was still among us. this is one of those times. >> well, look, as chris pointed out, the electorate would have to change

you can see the major fault, the san andreas fault and in the bay and and along the peninsula and you can see the aqueduct that brings it from the eastern part of the state to the bay area. the blue portions of pipe represent projects that are 100 percent complete. we've met our seismic upgrade goals for the project. the green are the projects under construction. you can see the tunnel and the bay tunnel currently in construction but we are about 90 percent complete on both projects. we still do have a few projects in the peninsula that are still under construction. again, the bay tunnel, we hold through again last year and the pipe is placed into tunnel and it's pretty exciting to see this tunnel come to shape and it's going to be quite a remarkable accomplishment when we see this go into service this fall. i must say, the biggest challenge of the program going forward is the calaveras damn replacement project. this project you heard about in the past is the largest project in the program one of the most complex. in 2012, we discovered an ancient landslide during construction that in

andrea, thank you. you just saw the press conference. what is kerry attempting to do today in this crisis? >> he's attempting to shore off the ukrainian people to tell their interim leaders they can pull this together and resist pressure on in terms of rising energy prices and also the threat of military force, that they can resist pressure from vladimir putin. he was strikingly passion nal having had the moving experience of walking by the square where the resistance took place, seeing the barricade still there, seeing the tires and barbed wire and flower for the martl mart martyrs, the heavenly hundred, all men and one woman who died in the sniper fire. it was an emotional day and business of trying to meet with interim leaders and tell them that the united states will stand with them $1 billion in loan guarantees. there has been some softening among the allies. here's you've got kerry and the president saying that vladimir putin will be isolated from the world economically and politically by his fans and by having operational control

we want to move forward. >> joining me now is andrea mitchell. as you just said the controversial practices took place where current cia director brennan was in charge of the interrogation program and said he would like to put this behind us and said there's a need for the senate to conclude its work. but clearly this once again focuses new light, not just on the program but on the relationship between the senate intelligence committee and cia. >> it does indeed. when he was confirmed in his confirmation hearing before that committee, he said he wanted to restore the trust that had been breached between congress and the cia and other intelligence agencies. this is one of the worst breaches that i've seen in all of my years of covering it. the fact that senator feinstein went to the floor after months of trying to get a reaction, what angered her so much apparently was that the cia took action to refer this to the justice department rather than they being on the receiving end of an investigation, they wanted to investigate the senate for allegedly

andrea mitchell back with me now.this week, you had a chance to sit down exclusively with former president jimmy carter. >> that's right. i spoke with him at the carter center in atlanta about his new book, "a call to action: women, religion, violence and power." we also talked about the crisis in ukraine as well as his distant relationship with president obama. >> why did you choose this time to focus on women and the way women are victimized around the world? >> for the last three years, we've been concentrating on the relationship between religion on the one hand and the abuse of women and girls on the other. existing abuse of females is the worst and most pervasive and unaddressed human rights violation on earth. that is derived i would say indirectly from the fact that religious leaders say women are inferior in the eyes of god which is a false interpretation of the holy scriptures but when they see that the pope and the southern baptist convention and others say that women can't serve as priests equally with men

>> andrea mitchell, thanks so much for that update. i want to bring in "the huffington post" political reporter amanda terkel and josh krashaar. how do they hope that john kerry's visit and this new $1 billion aid package might change the equation? >> well, i think that the obama administration wants to show right now as much support as it can from ukraine, while like andrea was saying, providing this off-ramp for russia if it does sort of want to dial down the crisis. what the white house hopes is that russia would accept the offer of sending international monitors to ensure the safety and rights of the russian speaking population in ukraine, but so far russia hasn't indicated it's interested in doing that. right now they are getting support from republicans and democrats, so there is a lot of support for moving swiftly and approving this aid package that the white house is asking for. >> swiftly on that, but as we just heard from senator john mccain, josh, some criticism, as well, for the overall administration policy, and how diffic
