andy frank has been consistent in trying to tackle the problem. and what he does throw this laboratory that he has at uc-davis, university of california davis, he works with college students, some are just volunteers, and he will take an suv, let's say chevy suburban or ford explorer and bring it into a shop and remove its drivetrain and the kinds of hybrids that he can build will create a vehicle that can go somewhere between 60 and 80 miles on a single charge so we are not talking about a little car, we are talking about a big car. and a gasoline engine that will take over to maintain the charge of the vehicle. so it's a classic hybrid car but a plug in hybrids of your charging it overnight at home or using a solar ray to charge the batteries. and so, the way most people drive -- and he's been making this case over ten, 15 years now -- you can take these vehicles and go to the gas station once or twice a year for 90% of the way americans drive because most of us don't go long distances a day so there would be little need to burn any gasoline at
