doug: kelly ann, thank you. breaking overnight, boston police shoot and kill a suspect in the south end. antoinette: the incident started with a call for an emotionally disturbed man. the eyeopener's juli mcdonald is live in the south end with the breaking details. juli? juli: antoinette and doug, we home. you can see there is still a police cruiser and a couple of police officers outside this shawmut avenue apartment. it was boston police and ems that responded to this home around 12:30 overnight. they entered the home hoping to calm down the 31-year-old man. police called him emotionally disturbed. police say at some point a st floor, and the man pulled out a knife. that's when police ran in to assist. the suspect swung repeatedly at the officers as they struggled on the floor to get the knife away. commissioner evans said they had no other choice, and the officers were forced to fire, ultimately killing the suspect. >> unfortunately, it turned ugly. they were attacked with a knife. the officers, and it left t

antoinette: kelly anne, thank you. those powerful october thunderstorms that moved through the area, the heavy rain bringing severe street flooding to parts of our area. you can see the cars left stranded in fitchburg. more than 4 inches of rain falling in some spots. todd: including worcester where we find the eye's nicole estaphan. good morning, nicole. antoinette, todd. much of the flooding has receded in this area, but take a look behind me. many streets remain closed and this is why. they're still towing vehicles, those veks -- vehicles flooded. we're on southbridge street, one of many cars stranded across the street last night. high floodwaters forcing emergency crews to close several streets in the area. one man so stuck, he had to southbridge street while waiting to be rescued, one of dozens of rescues by emergency crews last night. on nearby cambridge street, water levels as high as 8 feet deep. neighbors say there are at least 13 rescues from that one spot alone. >> never seen anything like this at all. roads

anne: i think that is right. i think markets have largely ignored it because they have this underlying belief that central bankers are going to continue to be able to run to the rescue. again, we have seen overnight, with draghi saying tapering will be later. again, it is like feeding the dragon. markets think, we are still ok for now. volatility is pretty low at the moment. that is the risk. markets are right to respond like that, because every time there has been a crisis in the last eight years, central bankers have written to the rescue. francine: unless we have a recession. ise: unless everything turned upside down, and we do not have any tools to combat it with. we look at- anne: the disappointment in earnings numbers from corporate coming through. perhaps the underlying economic engine might just be beginning to flow, and what is the next step on that? it is too early to say that, but there is the bit of fear in the background. if you move into recession, we cannot cut much further. francine: what is your

i'm anne-marie green. national hurricane center says the threat to the soft southeast coast of the united states to hurricane matthew has increased. the storm is surging through the caribbean sea expecting to pass over or near the island of haiti. matthew is headed north with life-threatening wind, rain and storm surge, matthew is a dangerous category 4 with winds of 145 miles per hour. hurricane warnings are in effect for haiti, cuba and the bahamas. haiti to get up to 40 inches of rain. pounding flash floods, mudslides and storm surges are possible. the blunt of the storm is set to side step jamaica, but with hurricane force winds, jamaica took a hit. schools have been closed indefinitely, some turned into shelters. this is matthew as seen from the national space station. the governors of north carolina and florida have declared states of emergency. later told, it is likely a hurricane watch will be issued for florida's atlantic coast. >>> and now to the latest political storm, hillary clinton and donald

welcome kelly anne cicalese. kelly: it was a really active night as many of us got woken up issues a major issue. we saw nearly 5 inches of rainfall for areas of worcester county. now we're going to the forecast this morning. you're kicking off saturday with fog out there. rain not as much of a concern, but we move toward your afternoon and evening and wind advisories have already been issued as we're seeing a wind advisory in effect for the entire state of massachusetts, rhode island and connecticut with wind gusts between 40 and 50 miles per hour possible. there's the lightning of last night. that pushed off to the east. tracking is a nice low and the shower activity for this morning until the next round of showers pushes in. that's moving in from the south and west later this afternoon and through this evening as well. and these showers will bring our not only next chance of rain but strong and gusty winds and a big cooldown as we head into the forecast tonight. we'll have a look at that, because you'll be sho

kpix 5's anne makovec is tracking the conditions there and anne, how is it now? >> reporter: ceremony better than it is on the other side -- certainly better than it is on the other side of the bay bridge as roqui talked about the big rig accident at the entrance on the westbound side is really -- eastbound side, rather, is really bad right now. but this is the westbound side. you have the normal traffic. you can see behind me that the roadways are wet but the more traffic that we have been seeing here on the roadway the more vehicles there have been to push that water off of the pavement. it's not so bad. the splashing beneficial for those of you who have yet to hit the roadway [chuckling] for your morning commute. we had a crew out during last evening to show how that looked driving around at the beginning of this storm. the chp responded to dozens of accidents overnight because of the wet roads. drivers in many cases going too fast for the conditions. so reminder to give yourself extra time as you are heading out. later when it gets light out, if you have your
