i met an individual in ann arbor named dunbar with connection with some legal work. turns out he was a civil war student like i was so we would talk about the civil war and wonder he calls me up and said i have this typescript of a journal and he had discovered it probably was something related to an artifact in the clark library and he said but you like to go with me up to the clark and talk with the director and staff about it and of course i said sure. let's do that so we went up there, turns out it was a copy of the typescript version of the manuscript but as we talked about it with the clark people we decided this is really quite a story and i read it and it leapt off the page. i could not put it down. del l dunbar and i began to work on a book. it was dell's idea that we would do a work of fiction and i said great. i'm not a fiction writer. why don't you start on it and he was delighted to do that so he wrote several chapters which were very good and one day he said to me you know, this is too much work. i like to play tennis which i like to travel to florida.
