i'm anne-marie green. well, a tense week of severe weather across the middle of the country will continue today. at least five tornadoes touched down on thursday. three in oklahoma and two more in arkansas as a line of powerful storms reached from the south all the way to the great lakes. but it's not just the damaged winds from tornadoes that are causing worries this morning. heavy rains are threatening to trigger damaging floods. >> you need to go home to your mom and dad, babe. that is a tornado. >> this twister formed thursday afternoon in oden, arkansas. it swept through part of the rural community, smashing a home and injuring four people. >> we carried her out of the window and carried her in the back of the truck -- back seat of the truck until the ambulance got here. >> just to the south the storm flattened a mobile home. a total of nine people were hurt as the storms moved across arkansas. two men were hospitalized after they were struck by lightning. a witness says the strike happened without war

i'm anne-marie green. president obama says counterterrorism officials did what they were supposed to be doing before the boston marathon bombings, but the government's handling of intelligence is being questioned. a 90-day federal review of events leading up to the bombing this week. they will claim his body once the wife has agreed. once they do, his cause of death will be released. meanwhile the man who tamerlan and his brother allegedly carjacked spoke to cbs news correspondent john miller in his first tv interview. >> reporter: this 26-year-old chinese entrepreneur who calls himself danny had just pulled over in his new mercedes on this boston street to send a text message when a man jumped in. >> i thought it was a robbery. he took out his gun, pointed it at me, he said don't be stupid. >> reporter: but then he quickly realized this was more than just a robbery. >> he asked me a question like do you love -- i said, yes. i said, he said, i did that, and gist killed a policeman in cambridge. >> reporter:

i'm anne-marie green. well, without warning, part of an interstate bridge collapsed into a river in washington state last night. several vehicles plunged into the water, but this morning authorities say no one was killed and just three people were injured. the i-5 bridge located in a rural area about 60 miles north of seattle fell into the skaj it river. interstate 5 is the main north-south freeway on the west coast. susan mcginnis has more. >>> a bridge collapsed on the interstate 5 about halfway between seattle and vancouver. a handful of people and their vehicles plunged into the river. >> rough day. i'm glad to be here breathing. >> he and his wife had to be rescued from the river along with another man. he said the semi trailer in front of him hit the bridge causing the collapse. >> there was a big puff of dust and i hit the brakes. the weight of the trailer and everything else, we went right off with the bridge as it collapsed into the skaj it river. >> interstate 5 is a heavily traveled highway conn

i'm anne-marie green. well, three men are being held without bail this morning accused of trying to protect one of the boston marathon bombing suspects. the three are college friends of accused bomber dzhokhar tsarnaev. they are not charged with any direct involvement in the take, but they do face obstruction charges for allegedly trying to cover up for their friend by concealing evidence. susan mcginnis has the details. >> three 19-year-olds appeared before a federal judge on wednesday accused of trying to cover up evidence from the boston marathon bombing for their friend dzhokhar tsarnaev. authorities say azamat tazhayakov and dias kadyrbayev tried to destroy evidence for tsarnaev. the third is accused of lying investigators when asked about it. his mother appeared to be upset as she left the courthouse. federal authorities say the three men didn't connect tsarnaev to the marathon bombings until fbi officials released photos of the suspects to the public. prosecutors says kadyrbayev texted tsarnaev that

i'm anne-marie green. this morning firefighters in southern california are battling a fast moving wildfire that forced up to 6,000 memorial day campers to evacuate. the fire broke out yesterday afternoon in the los padres national forest. about 50 homes are threatened, many of them vacation rentals. so far just one building has actually been damaged. >> it was a u.s. forest service building. the fire was put out so only a certain portion of the building was destroyed. we had two vehicles that were burned. one was a u.s. forest service whiteface mountain. the weather was so bad that part of the highway had to be closed. >>> and president obama takes a post-memorial day tour of the jersey shore today. he'll get a firsthand look at recovery efforts from superstorm sandy. new jersey suffered an estimated $38 billion in storm damage. sandy hit seven months ago and the road back has not been easy. erica ferrara look at one hard hit community off long island's south shore. >> reporter: the crowds at this year's m

i'm anne-marie green. well, this morning recovery efforts are under way in the central plains after a severe storm system unleashed a tornado outbreak. at least two dozen tornados were reported over four states yesterday, oklahoma, kansas, illinois, and iowa. but hardest hit was central oklahoma where at least one person was killed and dozens were injured. this tornado touched down in enmond, and that's just about a half hour north of oklahoma city. dozens of homes have been destroyed or damaged. a trailer park in shawnee was run over. a state of emergency has been declared in at least 16 counties. susan mcginnis has our report. >>> sirens wailed, warning oklahoma residents to head for cover as tornadoes ripped through the central part of the state.

i'm anne-marie green. well, at least six people are dead this morning after a tornado swept through a north texas town. the deadly twister touched down last night in granbury about 65 miles southwest of dallas. the same storm system produced at least two other tornadoes throughout north texas wednesday evening. in addition to the damaging winds, hail stones the size of baseballs fell in some areas. reporter andrea lucia from our dallas station kttv was in granbury. we understand there was an update. >> reporter: we got information from hood county the sheriff has been keeping numbers overnight. the important number, of course, six people have died. that number has stayed kint the last few hours. we also know, though, 14 people remain unaccountled for. all of these victims are from the same neighborhood rancho brazo, the area that took the hardest hit last night. emergency responders were able to evacuate 13 people from that community. others were bussed out. we have not been allowed in that area. tonight,

i'm anne-marie green. oscar winning actress angelina jolie is making a startling announcement this morning. in an op-ed piece in today's "new york times," jolie reveals she underwent a double mastectomy in order to reduce her risk of developing breast cancer. in the piece titled "my medical choice" jolie says she opted for the procedure after learning she carries a gene which sharply increases the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. the actress said she began the three-month procedure in february after her doctor estimated she had an 87% chance of contracting breast cancer. once i knew that this was my reality, jolie writes, i decided to be pro-active and to minimize the risk as much as i could. it's an issue already deeply personal to jolie. her mother died in 2007 of ovarian cancer at the age of 56. jolie, who turns 38 next month, writes she now can tell her children they don't need to worry about losing her to breast cancer and she adds that she hopes her decision to go public about the proced

i'm anne-marie green. well, this morning california firefighters are battling to save thousands of homes from a series of aggressive wildfires. the most dangerous is burning out of control about 50 miles northwest of los angeles, but there are other fires in the east and in california. the big fire northwest of l.a. erupted in a wall of flames overnight. it stretches from the mountains to the ocean. the pacific coast highway has been closed twice and new evacuations were ordered last night. edward lawrence is in camarillo. edward, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. this fire in ventura county has actually grown overnight to 8,300 acres now. it was an intense and tiring day for fire crews and that has lead to intense fighting overnight. fire crews are trying to use the cooler temperatures to get in front of the flame. a thousand firefighters are working on this, and it's still just 10% contained. the overnight hours brought little relief for firefighters battling the spring's fire near cam

i'm anne-marie green. well, this morning the rescue effort in moore, oklahoma, is winding down. two days after a massive tornado tore through the city, the fire chief says he is almost certain there are no more victims or survivors to be found. here's the latest. the death toll stands at 24, including nine children. more than 200 people were hospitalized. one quarter of the homes in moore were damaged or destroyed. scientists have upgraded the storm to an ef-5, the most powerful with winds exceeding 200 miles per hour. it caused such severe damage, emergency crews had to use gps devices just to figure out where they were. bigad shaban has more. good morning. >> reporter: anne-marie, good morning to you. this is just a small tam pell of what that massive tornado left behind. cars were tossed around like toys and entire neighborhoods were flattened. here in oklahoma, the damage stretches 17 miles. the search for bodies and survivors is nearly complete. >> hello. can you hear me? >> reporter: officials say they've checked every home at least once, but they plan to double- and tripl
