you heard anne makovec talk about that earlier, talking about the potential of 10 inches or more of snowtop of mount hamilton. the north bay mountains will see similar conditions. we are focusing on the east bay . on highway 24 it towards the caldecott tunnel, you climb up in elevation. i don't think there will be a substantial accumulation there, but potentially enough to result in slippery conditions, then the north bay mountains picking up several inches of snow with even more further to the north in mendocino and lake counties. for the rain that most of us will experience a lower elevations, we are talking about half an inch of rain on the low end of things, which will be the north bay. a lot of the moisture will be aimed at the southern half of the bay area. it approaches two inches of rainfall in san jose. i think that that is probably overaggressive, but still anything more than an inch of rain if it falls in a short enough period of time could result in a little bit of standing water on the sides of the roads. then we have more rain in the forecast. once we get past a dry day and

our anne makovec joins us with an update. anne? >> reporter: yeah, the 101 is closed in both directions and menlo park. pg&e working on the problem but patience is wearing thin. thousands of people in east palo alto and menlo park have been in the dark and cold for two days now, not knowing when the power might come back on. >> we still don't have a team on site. we still don't have technicians on site. it doesn't seem like we are a priority. i don't understand why our community doesn't get the same consideration other communities do. >> reporter: our chopper was over menlo park earlier today as crews finally got to work on a downed power line. they were replacing and line that goes across the freeway, and had to remove a fallen tree to get to it. in order to do that, they had to do this. shut down traffic along 101. right now it is both north and southbound lanes that are close. this is in menlo park between willow and marsh roads. pg&e said it was a complicated process working with caltrans and the chp to make this happen. >> we

anne makovec has an update. >> reporter: crews in men low park were working to restore power. we hope it happens in the next couple of hours. some spots it's been out for days taken up by falling trees and lines and the powerful winds. this afternoon, the chopper spotted crews blocking off all northbound lanes of highway 101. they had to remove a fallen tree before they could make repairs to the power line. pg&e said 80% of the crews in the bay area are working on repairs in san mateo county. the utility is facing fires from politicians. mike berman said pge failed miserably in communicate wearing its customers. my staff has made many calls and spoken to residents without heat. we must do better. pg&e tweeted an apology for the long delay saying they had to work out the 101 closure this afternoon with caltrans and chp. businesses in redwood city are making due trying to stay open while the lights are open off. the people at tough adjustment. >> we are escorting everyone through the stores, especially so they can see because it's dark inside. >> reporter: should be back on for

anne makovec joins me now to help sort this all out. >> let's start with b.a.r.t. things are getting back to normal. that is the good news. this all began when a box truck was transporting hazardous materials that driver smelled something weird and stopped by the daly city b.a.r.t. station to check it out. that is what haz-mat closed that area off and ordered everybody out of the station. neighboring balboa park and another b.a.r.t. station was closed while police and health officials took the necessary precautions. all three stations havea look a as it collects materials and assesses the danger earlier this afternoon. police and fire officials have not confirmed that those hazardous materials came from the scene of yesterday fire in the sunset but earlier today, we did spot investigators loading several cylindrical tanks into a box van to transport evidence to a secure location. they all looked similar. as for the fire itself, that has been confirmed now that one person died in the sunset district home on 22nd avenue. from wild flames and a massive plume of smoke

. >> let's bring in anne makovec now. the bay area's highest peaks are bracing for more snow, several inches! are we calling for that? >> it is not crazy! the mountains do see periodical snow, but it is usually a spectacle for californians pumped to see it outside of places like tahoe. let's take a look at the diablo range. this is in the foothills of santa clara county. they are expecting the possibility of snow over the next few days. let's take a look from the observatory camera. it is pretty tough to see up there. this is on the top of mount's hamilton in san jose. this is a look at mount hamilton after snowfall back in 2018. while it is very pretty, the people at the observatory want you to look from afar. it is a long, narrow, often steep and twisty road to get up there. >> first of all it is dangerous. people can get themselves into trouble. the conditions can change quite rapidly at this elevation in these kinds of storms. so people tend to drive up and then the ice or the water freezes on the road service and the
