anthony.ut a fourth woman is every bit as deserving to be carved into that white marble lucy stone. she was equally dedicated to the women's rights movement as were these three women and also a celebrated passionate -- for the antislavery movement. her absence from the monument says volumes about how we tell her history and whom we celebrate. tonight i want to choose a lucy at least temporarily into that marble. i decided to write a biography of lucy stone after he completed a book on the seneca falls movement and the 19th century women's rights movement rate editor at oxford commented that i seem to enjoy writing about people and should consider a biography. lucy stone immediately came to mind. for many gears in my teaching i talk about and use lucy stone as an example of not only a great woman but also how often we leave important people out of our past. so i plunged in losing -- using lucy's correspondents convince reports and widespread newspaper coverage that she generated. what was espec

mason, anthony, thanks very much. that problem you heard mentioned at the "wall street journal," its web site crashed probably because so many folks were trying to find out what was happening with the stock exchange. the journal was offline for about an hour. at united airlines, the computers went down about 9:00 a.m. eastern time. planes sat idle, coast-to-coast. kris van cleave is following this. >> reporter: the computer glitch paralyzed united airlines, the nation's second largest carrier for roughly 90 minutes. in los angeles, a long line of passengers stretched well past the terminal. it was a similar story in boise, idaho, and at chicago o'hare airport. crowds at the nashville airport ticket counter greeted nancy williams this morning. >> i walked up to the kiosk to just quickly put my bag through and everything was just blank. >> reporter: blank united says because of an issue with a router that knocked several systems offline. passengers could not check in, employees reported flight plans could not be sent to

anthony, thanks. we begin with a developing story. 1,000 firefighters are battling a massive fire in southern california. this is video from our nbc chopper. the fire has burned more than 3,500 acres along interstate 15. the fire caused heavy traffic since it ignited yesterday afternoon. flames jumped across the freeway, destroying at least four homes, 20 cars, and two big rigs. at least two people have been hurt. as helicopters were making water drops, firefighters helped to lead some drivers away from the fire. others were told to stay in their cars. still, others ran, completely abandoned their cars. the chp called nearby tow companies to help clear the freeway of those abandoned cars. about 75 were left behind. >> we just left the cars and took off running. you could just see cars burning. i guess power lines popping. it was scary. >> i 15 is expected to remain closed until later this morning. nearby homes also have been evacuated. we want to mention, this is in the baldy mesa community near victo
