in central arkansas. they have been cut off from support. they are a part of the trans-mississippi but they are very isolated. the union forces are going to start to move into upper arkansas and reach out to general thompson. at a place called chalk bluff which is a river crossing -- there it is -- on the arkansas/missouri border thompson will -- he is a tough negotiator. he demands to know the terms that lee got at appomattox and for his men to get the same terms. when he is reassured he agrees to surrender. this takes place on may 11. and, let's go back. on the map here, there is chalk bluff in the upper area of arkansas. it is in jackson port that about 5000 confederate troops -- and they are all arkansas troops -- are going to stack their weapons and receive parole passes and rations. some union officers will move in and they will meet with general thompson there. this is going to be about 7000 total. the final events in jackson port take place on may 25. again, thompson is not happy with how things h

so far eight confirmed tornadoes over oklahoma and extending into arkansas. devastating there tonight. on storm scan3 you can see dry over the delaware valley but this is the severe weather the line of severe weather that's moving through st. louis and heading towards cincinnati. the good news is, this is weakening as it moves eastward. so by the time it makes it into the delaware valley, it will just be some garden variety thunderstorms. a line of thunderstorms but not expected to be severe. that is the good news with this. we are looking at temperatures though that are warming ahead of this cold front that's setting off severe weather. and you can see the numbers down through delaware in the 40s and they will be rising overnight. greg reporting in a temperature of 43 degrees with mostly cloudy skies. and marshaltown. we'll take look in south jersey the temperature near collingswood is 41 degrees much the clouds thickening and hal is saying rain full just six hundredths of an inch we expect a half an inch during the day tomorrow. some cooler temperatures wit

you can see clouds over oklahoma and arkansas. and if you take a close look at this, there are dots in clouds this means weather was very unstable. and usually we have 70 tornados or 80 tornados for the entire month of march in the united states, but up until tuesday we have none. so it's a slow start to the tornado season. typically the peak of the tornado season is in may. there's a slight risk for tornados thunderstorms, large hail and damaging winds. and in fact softball-sized hail was reported in oklahoma. the system will likely move towards the east. so widespread rain is likely for the eastern one fourth of the united states for thursday. temperatures will be cooling down dramatically new york 13. washington, 23 down to only 6 degrees. take care of your health. it's a very sharp drop in temperature. now very different story about the southwestern corner of the united states. temperatures will be midsummer like. l.a., 33 on friday. stay hydrated and watch out for heatstroke. >>> now across europe there's a risk for tornados
