arturo santiago is live with how customers' information was swiped. arturo, good morning. >> reporter: barnes&noble says it is a sophisticated effort to steal the information of its customers. the company is advising anyone who used a card at their stores to change their pins and also to look for any unauthorized transactions. the barnes & noble is one of 63 stores across the country to have one of its pinpads compromised. only one device in each store was hacked. the criminals planted bugs in the affected pin pads to allow them to obtain pins and credit card numbers. barnes & noble stopped using the pin pads at all the nearly 700 stores nationwide and that happened on september 14th. there have been some cases in which information was stolen and used to make unauthorized purchases. some of the customers we talked to are hesitant to use cards at barnes & noble. others, not so much. will you use your credit card here or debit card here? >> sure. i mean, we cannot stop all these things. >> the card that i have, i have protection on it, so if something h

arturo santiago is live at nasa ames at moffett field. just how big was this one? size of a small compact car? >> reporter: that's exactly right. around that size is what they're saying. one astronomer here was monitoring this meteor very closely. he's hoping to have video from the sunnyvale cameras. in the meantime we have video from the lick observatory in san jose. here it is. the meteor streaking across the sky is at the top of your screen there. it actually entered the earth's atmosphere over the bay area just before 8:00 last night. now, this is not part of the orionid's meteor shower we'll see the next couple of days. it became visible when it was about 70 miles above the earth. again, one astronomer believes it was about the size of a car when it hit the atmosphere at around 25,000 miles an hour and then started breaking up. people reported hearing a loud boom and then saw the bright orange and red fireball. >> the color of the meteor you see can tell you a little bit about what the meteor is made of. if you see yellow, it's sodium and iron. magnesium will

arturo is live with the latest. >> good morning, jon. there were police officers waiting inside the school waiting for the family this morning. the officers and the school district did not allow those two little girls who have a severe nut allergy to go to school. the edwards family was greets at the front door by the school superintendent. it turns out, it wasn't much of a greeting. >> the superintendent blocked our way. they had two police officers waiting for us and she would not let us step foot beyond those doors. 89-year-old elaand 7-year-old sarah have been enrolled since august. both are severely allergic to nuts to the point where contact with even a trace amount. the doctor started to ask the school to provide a more stringent, nut-free environment for ella and sarah. >> that's when they started to reject our enrollment. >> reporter: the superintendent diana abboti would not comment on camera, but she says the district maintains the edwards are not residents of los gatos and, therefore, the school cannot attend its schools. >>

good morning, arturo. >> reporter: good morning, laura.he mother of these two little girls tried to meet with the school superintendent yesterday. she said the superintendent would not meet with her. she does know that police officers have been told by the district to be here at the school and not allow edwards and her daughters onto campus. well, the mother knows this, but she is still going to try to take her daughters to school. now, her daughters are 9-year-old ella and 7-year-old sara. they have severe nut allergies. contact with just trace amounts of nuts could be life-threatening. their mother says the school would not provide a classroom environment that's safe for her daughters and they have been told that the girls are not allowed to go to the school anymore, basically kicking them out. edwards calls it discrimination. the school district asserts that the edwards don't live at the address in los gatos that they used to enroll an do not belong at the elementary school. >> really hoping that it's not something that's going to scare
