ix studentitle athlete. when i attended california state college at los angeles in the 1960's, we were still a full decade away from the enactment of title ix. financial assistance was available for all athletes and tennis players, but only for the men athletes and tennis players. two of the top men's tennis players were attending college down the road from a. stan smith was at a full ride at usc. arthur ashe had a full scholarship at ucla. even though i was arguably the best tennis player at cal state and had already won a wimbledon title, i was not receiving any rental assistance. i did have two jobs. one of which was handing out gym equipment in the locker room. i thought i was living large. men and women did not have equal opportunities. i'm very thankful to the people who made title ix's. they're my sheroes and my heroes. the efforts of edith greene and the senator who presented title ix to the senate. congresswoman patsy mink, senator ted stevens, and many others pave the way for us to right this wrong

if we were talking about taking a new space that had never been athletic fields and making it athletic fields, i think we'd have a different conversation but i think to the extent that we are talking about a renovation of an existing facility, and the challenge that we have, that we don't maintain our open space very well, and someone mentioned golf courses. if you've looked at lincoln park, that golf course is a mess. and a lot of our facilities suffer. there's a controversial ballot measure about clay tower. i think a lot of people feel there's a lot of needs within our recreation and park facilities that we need to deal with and we don't have enough funds or resources to deal with those things and that is a reality and i don't see that's changing in the near future. i, myself, played soccer. i wouldn't prefer to play on turf. i would prefer to play on grass fields. that's what i played on. doesn't seem appealing to me to play on turf but as a former soccer player and as a stepmom to a soccer player where i spend my weekend at soccer tournaments, when you play soccer, you care about

i am a high school athletic director. i spent five years running san francisco delete here in the city. i am very much -- san francisco little league here in this city. i am very much in favor of this project. as a high school athletic director, we struggled with the condition of the grass fields in the city. we have parents that that does not to send our teams to play at feels that have become degraded and dangerous. we send our kids there and a kid gets injured, we felt horrible. the synthetic turf fields are the safest fields in the city. from an athletic director perspective, this is a fantastic project. as a former president of the youth sports organization, speaking on behalf of the people the care about their kids, i want to say how when pour into this project is. these people give us so much of their free time to the kids of the city and to be supported by the city is a fantastic thing. this eir process -- we understand the process needs to happen. please accept the eir. do not accept reasons that we do not believ
